Advice needed. I dont feel like my 15 month old son is interested in toys as he should be. He's walking so mobile. He's not talking but does imitate noises of cars etc. I guess what I mean is he'll play with his toys for around 30 mins a day and just not be interested anymore and I need some advise. It doesnt matter how many times i switch his toys round or weather I play with him or going into the garden. How can I get him more interesting in playing? I feel like it's going to affect his development. He has lots of toys and they are in his reach all day.

I don't think DS really played with toys till nearer 2 - he's always been into real world stuff rather than toys. The contents of the kitchen cupboards were the best thing for a very long time. At 3 his preferred toys are still real world ones so play kitchen, tools & drs kit.

He's very young to expect long concentrated periods of play. So don't worry.

You say he has access to all his toys. Too much choice can be confusing at this age, so it might help if you keep most of his toys put away and just leave a few out at a time for him to explore. And swap them around on different days.

Mine is a month younger and he plays nicely for his age, in my opinion, but never with one thing for any length of time. When it’s just the two of us and DC1 is at school, he will follow me round while I do stuff like hoover and will dip in and out of toys while I do less interesting stuff. We tend to break this up with me helping him with certain toys. He will entertain himself nicely in his play pen for 10-15 minutes with maybe two or three different things but then wants out.

His main passion is climbing on the sofa, which he is completely obsessed by this week.Grin He also likes singing and bouncing games, and stories, though his second passion is un-stacking all of the baby books and depositing them round the room.

So I wouldn’t worry if I were you, your little one sounds perfectly fine. The longer spells of concentration and getting something out of a toy will come.

DS is the same age and will play for a bit, go for a long walk around the house while singing, pretend to cook in the kitchen, try and break into the toilet, make animal sounds, ‘read’ a book, then return to his toys lol. If his development is ok in other areas then don’t worry
