Does my March baby need a pramsuit?!

Hi all! I'm due my first baby at the end of March (in the south of the UK) and feel confident with dressing her at nighttime but feel a bit unsure about what she will need to wear for walks! Will she need a pram suit or will a onesie, coat/cardi, blanket and hat be enough when she's in a pram? I'm also going to be using a carrier after a few weeks but hoping it will be a little warmer and I'll know the drill a bit better by then!
I'm notoriously bad at gauging temperature for myself and what to wear but want to make sure she's the perfect temperature when we're out and about!

Any advice for a first time mum would be much appreciated :) thank you!

Another vote for footmuff here - you can use them for a few years and zip/unzip them as you please if the temperature shifts.

I had one from 7am Enfant which had two different covers you could zip on and off for different weathers. There was a padded one and a light fleecy one.

Agree with everyone else- pramsuits are actually a pain as they don’t allow for a change in environment.

I used to walk to the local supermarket- pramsuit involved putting it on, taking it of when we got there as indoors was too warm, especially if I wanted a quick sit down and a coffee in the cafe, then putting it back on for the walk home, taking it off when we got there.. if the baby was asleep at any point I had to wake them.

So I ditched them in favour of fleece blankets. So easy to whip them off and pop under the buggy if it got warm, and throw back on if we moved somewhere colder.

Hi OP. I had my baby at the end of march last year. I didnt bother. He was cozy enough with cardigans and blankets.

I did use one for my March baby but she was a tiny premature baby plus it was handed down from her sister so I didn't actually buy it . I much preferred to layer on blankets when we went out and I walked a lot with her . I used to put the Wallaboo footmuff into the pram and she was cost in that

Thanks all I ended up getting a star wrap (they also just look super cute on the babies in the photos!!) and have bought an extra blanket that I can pop on if it's a bit chillier than usual!

I have two March babies and I used the pram suit I bought once! Such a faff to get on and off.
I would highly recommend a Morrck blanket. I used ours everyday and kept them warm and cosy.

Ignore my comment, I didn't see your most recent reply that you've now bought something.

I wouldn't bother. You could get a coat that isn't too padded and pop a blanket on her feet. Each time the blanket is folded it is considered an extra layer so fold and unfold as weather permits. Congratulations!

That looks pretty similar to what I bought in the end, thanks very much Smile

Yes - it's possible. I have photos of my eldest wearing a pramsuit in April of her birth year (she was a few months old).
I'd buy a cheap second hand one on eBay and possibly one of the thinner fleecy ones rather than a big padded faux-fur lined puffy thing.

ChocOrange1 · 15/03/2021 21:48

Star wrap or fleece onesie. I absolutely adore the frugi snugglesuits and my March baby wore hers all the time. Safe for car seats, warm and easy to take on and off. But a bit pricey.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/03/2021 21:49

Agree with the consensus that you should be fine with layers and blankets at that time and that age. By the time they can pull the blankets off etc it'll be warmer.

Piccalily19 · 16/03/2021 01:12

My baby is nearly 6 weeks old, I feel really bad as we were given about 5 lovely pram suits in size 0-3m and he’s worn none of them and I don’t think he’ll get to. We had to get him 1 ourselves in newborn size as they fit big (it only just fits him properly now despite him being in 0-3m clothes). He’s probably worn the 1 we got him about 5 times? And that’s with me taking out most days. I agree with previous posters that putting him in a hat and jacket with blankets is much easier as we can leave him to sleep in his pram when we get back from walks as it’s easier to just whip layers off without disturbing him

CreosoteQueen · 16/03/2021 04:26

I wouldn’t bother - I’m only using mine now and then already, I expect by the end of March I will have retired it!
