Older children with comforter/teddy/blanket?

DS will be 4 in a couple of months and has always had some Muslins that he cuddles to sleep when he goes to bed.
He is at nursery and obviously doesn't take them there, he isn't bothered and they are a 'home' thing that he will go and drag out from his bed when he's feeling tired or watching a film on the sofa to cuddle into and rub gently over his lips.
Do you think this is ok for a child of nearly 4 to have a comforter?
It's not like he's walking round with them when we are out and it's just a bedtime and snuggle time thing.
Will he just grow out of needing or wanting them?
☺️

Oh you guys, this has made me feel loads more relaxed about it. Reading your replies has been lovely and it's so nice to hear of all your different stories of your children with their favourite comforters 🥰
Just to clarify I was not at any point thinking of taking them away I just wanted some reassurance that it's ok and I love that he has his little raggies to calm and comfort him ☺️

@Iknowtheanswer

My 17 and 14 years old still sleep with their original teddies. Obviously they don't leave their beds now, but I still find then hanging onto them in the night.
Same here!

My 4 year old DS has a teddy he’s had since birth that he’s very attached to. Comes almost everywhere with us. I have no issue with how he is with it. I think it’s quite sweet personally

14 and 12 both sleep with their comforters. I took my teddy to uni and still have him around 😀

My nan used to tease me that when I got married I’d have to sew my blanket in to my wedding dress. At 29 I did! Just a tiny scrap to prove her right ☺️

A 4yr old is not an older child! They are still very young.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 15/03/2021 07:24

4 yrs is still young! That's totally fine! Though I'm married, in my thirties and still sleep with a teddy bear so may not be the best person to ask...

My 19 & 16 yo still have theirs. Now elevated to god status. We still have "spa" days for them as they are washed - dh take the kids out and I sling them into the wash to get them dry before they return. This is a more important family ritual than any of the Christmas ones.

I was worried that DD would be the only one at uni with theirs in tow - turns out most have them. Her "household" all made matriculation outfits and formal outfits for their teddies.

My 4yo has had a ewan the dream sheep since she was born. She decided to bring him everywhere with him when she was about 2. So much so she dropped him in the swimming pool in menorca and we had to cut his insides out. He is her biggest comfort and she likes to have him when she gets out of pre school (he waits in the car for her) and it doesn't bother me whatsoever. If it gives her some sort of comfort I won't be taking it off her any time soon.

@rhowton

I'm in my 30s and have a teddy at night... 😂
@rhowton I'm 30 and have just got rid of mine (but only because my 4yo has stole it for her room lolol)

My ds 12 still has his baby blanket. He still uses it at night

I used to teach 4 year olds and honestly your child sounds completely normal. Still so little!

DP is 32 and would still be upset if he lost his teddy which was his childhood comfort toy Grin
