Carry cot or newborn insert for newborn in Out n About Nipper?

Which one do I need? Can I get away with newborn insert if I’m planning lots of long walks? Or is it not really ideal and better for short periods? Just got a double to use with DC1 (almost 2) and DC2 due in a few weeks! Any advice?

I think the carrycot is easier to just put baby in and out of as no straps, so would get if planning on using indoors napping as well. But without fine as well and will be easier to fold and save space in car. ( this is based on mountain buggy, but basically the same).

I would for double be tempted to use without carrycot, and just buy a nice sheepskin liner, and lightweight footmuff/ cocoon ( assuming baby is due over spring/ summer)

The carrycot is really narrow, my DS2 was hitting the sides by 4 months (not a huge baby he was just over 7lbs at birth). I would just go for the insert or get a cosy footmuff (we use a cocoon one which he seems nice and cosy in)

I used the newborn insert with mine and went off on huge long walks, worked well. She slept for most of it, so getting her in and out wasn't too much hassle as I didn't really need to. And it's machine washable!

That’s brilliant thanks all, I’ll look into the insert and liners too - Like the idea of a sheepskin liner @Caspianberg any suggestions of where to buy? Do you think it might be too hot over summer?

I have the carrycot but I'm not sure it was worth the extra money. In the double the bumper bar is pretty annoying to use when you have the carrycot in place. The other side is fixed and so you have to lift the older child into the buggy, they can't climb in themselves because the bumper bar is in the way. If using with a foot muff it just slides down and gets all tangled as you try and slot the child in. Admittedly my foot muff isn't isn't outnabout one but I'm not spending even more money on it. Also the rain cover doesn't go over over carrycot so if its raining then you can't use it.

The good thing about it is that you can easily see your baby, I keep reminding myself I like that. It's nice to be able to glance down and see she's OK. If I'd been able to see them in a shop before buying I probably wouldn't have got the carrycot, nor the under basket storage which is pretty much inaccessible all the time.

@UncleBunclesHouse - no a sheepskin liner won’t be too hot in summer. Most come from Australia where use as warm and cosy in winter, and stop sweating in summer. You can always lay a thin muslin in between baby and sheepskin so it’s quicker to wash anyway if they dribble/ spew.

Try gabe and grace for them, you can look up your pram specifically and they will suggest the best one to fit or they are custom made for that pram ie size and strap holes
