Infant dyschezia

Hi there

My 8 week old baby was diagnosed with infant dyschezia over the weekend as I was so concerned I took her to see an out of hours dr.
She was straining for 7 hours solid!!
She strains/squirms all through the day and night and I just want to know if anyone else is in this situation? It interrupts her naps too. The strange thing is that having a poop doesn’t seem to particularly ease it.

It’s really distressing to see all the time and I can’t start playing with her because she’s always straining/grunting/squirming and sometimes ends up crying. Her poops are soft.

Just looking for some advice/reassurance for my sanity! Anyone else’s little one do it to this extent and come out the other end?? It’s really getting me down. Thanks

It a normal developmental stage so it’s effects most babies. It normally takes them a couple of weeks to figure out how to poo.

Thank you for your reply. It’s been going on for about 6 weeks now. We are all exhausted

Hello. My baby did this, it was a really difficult time, however he stopped very suddenly at about 12 weeks. He is 6 months now and it seems like a distant memory. I know how at the time it feels like it wont ever end, but it will and soon enough it will be a distant memory for you too.

@Blindingpeaky thank you so much for your message of reassurance. It’s great to hear from someone who knows how distressing it is to see their little one so uncomfortable, night and day. I’m counting down the days to 12 weeks, I’ve also heard elsewhere that this is a time when they usually get the hang of it!
