Selling Car seat

I seen a thread on here the other day but now can't find it.

Is it true you shouldn't (or aren't supposed to) sell a car seat when your done with it?

I bought a travel system complete with isofix base for DD when she was born. I've just bought her a new car seat as she's grown out of the one that came with the travel system and will soon be buying her a new stroller. I'd planned to sell the whole travel system but I read somewhere that your not supposed to sell a car seat. Is this true?

I think the issue more comes from buying a second hand car seat when you don’t know for sure if it’s been in an accident (as you can’t use it again once it’s been in an accident), because of that I wouldn’t buy a second hand car seat unless I knew the person selling it.

Ironically, I wouldn't buy a second hand car seat either but I wanted to know weather there was a law or something against selling one.

No law against, but people shouldn't really buy one if you don't know its history. So we used one from SIL because we know we can trust her. But a stranger on the internet? Can't be that sure tbh

You shouldn’t buy a used car seat as you don’t know if it has been damaged by being dropped. However, we have given away several (I wish we had shares in the company). We always advertise them as ‘grandmas car seat’ so the person taking them knows they haven’t been subjected to extensive use or likely damage.

I don't want it to go to waste. It's only been used for 10 months and feel as if it has a lot of life left in it and would love for someone else to get a use of it too. I don't know what to do now Hmm I don't want to just Chuck the whole thing in the skip

There’s tonnes of car seats for sale on eBay/market place, certainly no law about reselling them on. If you know it’s safe then it’s up to the buyer to trust you and decide if they want to take the risk that you may not be telling the truth. I would use a second hand seat but only from a friend or family member that I’d know had my babies safety at heart. Other people unfortunately maybe don’t have the money to buy new.

You can definitely sell them, it’s just that quite a few people wouldn’t feel comfortable buying a secondhand one. But plenty of people do feel comfortable and are glad of a good quality seat. I’ve either sold mine or passed them on as I can confirm they’ve not been in in an accident and people trusted me when I said that. People don’t tend to sell them for very much around us though. Many just offer them for free as they are more concerned about avoiding the waste of throwing them away.

Have you got a friend or family member who might want it? I wouldn't buy one online, but if (for instance) my sibling offered me one, I'd trust them that it hadn't been in a crash.

You need to check the use by date also. Plastic gets brittle and older seats are more likely damage easily.
