Hello MN, my 1st post so pls bear with me. My DD1 is at 6th Form doing Maths amongst other subjects. I'm biased but she is (mostly) kind and patient?! To earn some pocket money for the summer, she tutors some local KS3 kids for £15 per session. Zoom natch. She wants to do more of this but I'm not sure if the demand is there. There seems to be so much tutoring available online. Her idea is to use 'spaced learning' to help the kids. This seems to work. Is this project worth helping her spend more time or just not worth the effort? Not looking to start a business but not wanting to waste our time either as she is not a qualified teacher etc.

Encourage her, I've been a maths tutor on and off for 20 years since I was a teen. A great way to supplement earnings both when I was at uni and when I'm working full time. If she has happy customers the families can provide references for when she goes for jobs. Much nicer way to make some money than working in supermarkets or fast food. She can charge more when she feels like she is really good at it and is able to plan her lessons to use time very efficiently. Last time I was actively tutoring (3 or 4 years ago) I was charging $50/hr (27.80 pounds). Could probably charge more now. I only tutored year 11s and 12s though (I found younger kids harder to tutor as they didn't know what they wanted to do and required a lot more planning, but the older ones would immediately get out their text book and say "well I tried this one yesterday and I got stuck on this bit..."
