Four month snack feeding

Hi everyone

My DS up until last week was happily polishing off 7oz bottles and feeding efficiently every 3-4 hours. He would sometimes break it up but the whole bottle would usually be taken within a 30 minute period. The last couple of weeks he has been having about 3oz and then not wanting anymore, resulting in smaller feeds more often. He is FF so we’ve had a lot of waste recently. Do you think I should just go with him and offer smaller bottles more frequently rather than preparing bigger bottles or is this a bad habit I need to break? He’s nearly 5 months old and my mum thinks I should introduce baby rice now - I’m not convinced as I don’t really know what this would achieve? Any tips?x

My DD went through a few stages of doing this. On a couple of occasions it was because she needed to move to a higher flow teat, the other times it was just a phase she snapped out of after a while. Personally I’d just roll with it and make smaller bottles until he’s happily polishing those off and then try bigger ones again. I don’t think 4 month olds are really capable of forming or breaking bad habits yet. Not sure about the baby rice, we did baby led weaning so waited till 6 months.

I’d try a faster teat to see if that helps!

At 4 months they start to notice the world around them and get distracted from their food! Offer smaller more frequent bottles. It's not a sign of readiness for solid food. Signs of readiness will be 6 months old, sitting independently, reaching for food (usually yours!) and bringing things to his mouth.

Thanks everyone for your advice...I think I’m going to go with a higher teat. He is still occasionally having a full 7oz at all once so I wouldn’t want to not have it on offer if he is still hungry. Does teething affect appetite?
