FTM so trying to find the best safe option for baby but have no idea what brands are best?

I've been told a britax two way elite is a good option for us to get as my 4 month old is 9kg and about 70cm tall so we need a 25kg rear facing seat ideally, DH's car is a Hyundai i10 and I believe i might need to get the inserts for him.

Britax are good car seats and have better safety testing than some other car seats. I got the two way elite, which fit nicely in my mazda 2. I've also got the britax max way plus which is plus safety tested. At four months though, I would be keeping them in their carrier. My dds carrier went up to 13kg, she stayed in it until 18months.

Safest option for any baby is a plus tested seat! This is the highest test a car seat has passed. Axkid minikid or any of the rear facing axkid seats have been plus tested. The two way elite hasnt been plus tested as it can be used forward facing. I have a minikid and would highly recommend it, it’s a strong seat and worth every penny.

I also have a minikid and it's great really easy to fit and use and should last DD until she's 6. I'm currently pregnant and when this baby has outgrown the infant carrier I'll be getting another minikid.

@Jacky209990 his carrier goes up to 13kg but he's also on the 99th centile for height so his heads going to be too high for it in 3/4 months if his growth doesn't slow down.

@Princessbanana Didn't expect a safe car seat to cost so much, although no one told me I d be having a 10lb 55cm baby that grows ridiculously fast.

I ll look into the other seats they make incase they re more affordable.

My dd was in the 90th percentile, which was why I wanted a 25kg rear facing car seat. She grew through her clothes so fast, then her really slowed down. Having my second now and all her clothes up to 12-18s are in such a good condition, mostly due to outgrowing them so fast. I was really surprised how long the baby carrier lasted. Its great to have the next car seat ready, but I'd leave in carrier for has long has possible.

It might be worth joining the Facebook toddler car seat group . They have great advise about car seats and car compatibility and sometimes there are offers on the mini kid.

It’s likely they will slow down growth wise the next few months so you should get a good while yet in current seat. Mine was long born, and wizzed through sizes 0-6 months. Now 10 months he’s actually been in 6-9 and 9-12 for ages depending on style, and just outgrown the 6-9.

He’s in maxi cosi mica which is a rear facing 0-18kg swivel seat. And I had to buy another insert as the newborn one he outgrow fast, but then he seemed too small for main seat. We never had a baby style seat, but I do wish we did as the other one did recline enough with newborn insert removed so until now ish he seems too upright and slumped when sleeping. It’s only due to Covid that we didn’t end up buying another to use as little car journeys

Infant car seat should last till around 12 months.

Then go for an erf

@Caspianberg I can barely get some of his 9-12 months t shirts on him.

@Jacky209990 I m trying to plan a bit ahead as we ll need to buy a new pram around the same time as it has a similar weight limit amongst other things.
@user643289 he's the weight of an average 10/11 month old, there's no way it's going the last till 12 months

A cheaper option but just as safe is the axkid move, it has less bells and whistles but just as safe as the minikid. Also the britax max way is a good seat that’s recommended for rear facing to 25kg also, I think it’s about £180. Btw, I have a Quinny zapp xtra 2 pram and it’s the best! It’s so small and compact!🙂

We have the Britax TWE in one car and it's great - very lightweight to take on holiday too. We have an Axkid Minikid in the other car and it is a fancier seat (self-tightening tethers, doesn't need to touch the seat in front, never have to re-thread the straps as the kid grows) but it weighs a ton so we hate taking it out of the car and it was over 50% more expensive than the TWE.

@AegonT I was worried the axkid ones would be a bit too bulky, thank you for your help
