4 month sleep regression is this it?

I have a lovely 4 month DS who has done really well with his sleeping! He has 5 7oz bottles a day around 7ish, 11ish, 2ish, 5.30ish and 9.30ish. He has a 2 hour awake window (max). After his tea time bottle he normally falls sleep downstairs in his moses basket (we keep him with us). We are starting to have to wake him for his last bottle at 9.40pm. We then all go to bed together and do stories, white noise and sleeping bag routine. We have to keep him upright after feeding as he has reflux and is a really sicky baby. He sleeps in his next to me crib by our bed and my DH and I swap sides of the bed each night to take it in turns with him. He used to go to sleep around 10.30ish and then only need settling once in the night. Now he seems to need settling every few hours or so. Sometimes after we've got him back to sleep he cries again after 10 mins. Last night he was up what felt like all night at 1, 2.30, 3, 5, 5.30, 6. Sometimes he takes a dummy and sometimes not. He is such a wriggler too and no matter where we put him down he thrashes around until he is in the bottom left hand corner of the crib. No matter how many times we put him back in the middle within minutes he is back in the corner! Is this the dreaded 4 month sleep regression? Any tips on how to get through this?

Yep this is it! Once you've eliminated everything else - made sure clothes and sleeping bag are comfortable, he's not teething, the room is dark and the right temp... it's the regression. It might last a few days or a few weeks! Keep everything consistent with your sleep routines, make sure he gets good day time sleep and sleep in the day when he does if you can. This too shall pass!

Hi, no tips but I’m going through an almost identical thing atm if it’s any consolation! We have similar feed times to you through the day and similar routine with just the one wake up, up until recently. He’s still feeding only once in the night but is making a lot of noises (moving/crying/slamming his legs down etc) so I feel like I’ve been up pretty much every hour the last week or so. The only thing that’s helped me is cosleeping. Don’t know if it’s an option for you but I find it easier to settle him when he’s right next to me, either by putting his dummy or cuddling up to him. He is generally less wriggly in my bed and also I feel like I can soothe him almost in my sleep without feeling like I’ve been properly woken up. Maybe worth a try depending on how comfortable you are with it if all the extra wake ups are getting to you? I think some people advise allowing them to self soothe during this phase but for me it’s not an option as it’s not fair on my husband who has to work or on the neighbours if I let him cry it out himself at all these wake ups!

Right there with you! 🙈 We were up at 12:30am, 2am, 4am, 4:30am, 5:30am, 6:30am 🤯 I’m breastfeeding so just feed her every time - not sure if that’s a good idea... Sometimes she’s on for 25 mins before I can put her down again. It will pass, right? Or are we supposed to do something?!

OP, can you just put him down in the bottom left corner of the crib if he’s heading there anyway?! Ours is the same, would always bury her head in the side since she was a few days old (cue me fretting all night long over whether she could breathe) so now we just plant her there in the first place!

Oh gosh it's not just me then! Caffeine all the way. It isn't nice to hear that none of you are getting any sleep either but it does make me feel better to know we are not alone if that makes sense!

@linerforlife this to shall pass is my mantra for the day! Thank you! Xx

@GBA123 I'm sorry to hear your little one is doing the same! I would be worried if I'm honest co sleeping but I know it works really well for some people. Would I turf my DH out of bed? Or all squash in together? I am glad you're finding something that works to get you through! Xx

@BerthaYoung haha! I hope it will pass! Everything crossed. I'm the same as you and didn't know if I should be doing anything! That is a good idea to just plonk him there anyway. But you are right when he is asleep I'm up and down like a yoyo checking he can still breathe! They do like to worry us don't they xx

@DisneyGirl2387 we squash tbh...me and my husband are both quite small and barely move in our sleep so I don’t feel worried in that sense but I do find I wake up a bit stiff cos I’ve been on the same side all night lol. You can google safe cosleeping and a lot of it is to do with removing pillows duvets etc and not having smoked or drank alcohol then sharing a bed. It’s really a personal choice some people aren’t a fan or don’t agree with it but I feel during this really unsettled stage for both me and baby it feels natural to just have him by my side and I think it helps him sleep better too!xx

DisneyGirl2387 · 26/03/2021 08:31

How is it going for all of you sleep wise? Better than me I hope! We are exactly the same! Still multiple wakings, lots of thrashing about and crying. I've stopped counting how many times I have to get up to settle him and I've stopped looking at the time too as it just stressed me. Last night was particularly hard and I am drained today! We have had one really good night and I thought we'd cracked it but it was just a fluke. X

Me too...we had a couple of nights where we just had the one feed and maybe a little disturbance near morning time and was so much better but was just a fluke...last few nights have been crap! Bed at 7, crying at 10.30 doesn’t want feeding though, feed at 12, noises at 2/3, another feed at 4.30, noises from 5.30 until wake up around 6.30!! Pass me the coffee! Cosleeping isn’t even paying off anymore so I’m considering putting him in his own room, i don’t know how else to avoid being woken up by all the thrashing and noises inbetween!

DisneyGirl2387 · 27/03/2021 06:46

@Ggg1234 I'm sorry to hear you're going through it still. Two feeds must be hard too! Our get ups for the day are starting earlier and earlier each day too. Goodness knows what will happen when the clocks go forward! Let me know if you go for the own room idea. I've thought about it but the thought of having to cross the landing 10+ times fills me with horror! We do keep him downstairs with us until we go to bed as we don't have a baby monitor yet but maybe we need to get one to give us a bit of breathing room! X

My LO has been like this the past week aswell, constantly waking up in the night, she only has 1 feed in the night usually around 2.30/3am although the past week it was anytime between 12.30am/3pm waking up at 5.30am & through the night thrashing around alot.
Last night was the best night shes had in a week and back to her normal routine, 7.30pm bed, 3am feed, back down til 7am
She is only 3 months though, I though it was too early for thesleep regression but from what everyone is saying it sounds the same?
