Nap dropped

What do I do with a toddler all day??? He used to nap a good 2 hours and now doesn't. The lack of time and peace to do anything is killing me.

We watch a bit of TV while I drink a coffee and attempt to muster up more energy.

How old is he?

How old is he?

Get him involved in preparing meals - eg making breakfast and lunch together. Bake muffins for a snack.

Fill the sink with water, toys and bubbles.

Go for a walk or to the park.

Put his favourite toys down for him to play with and try to let him get used to having some play time on his own - you can still be in the rook but not playing with him.

TV/movie for quiet time in place of the nap.

Read books. FaceTime a grandparent and get them to read him a book or show him something interesting.

Draw/paint.

Messy play in the garden - mud is good.

Get him to help you with household chores and turn them into a game.

2 and a bit. He's pretty good at playing etc, I'm just selfishly disappointed we won't ever have a period of quiet and time with the OH that isn't centred on a smal child.

It’s the evenings that are horrendous for us now that nap has gone Sad
You can still have quiet time at that time of the day, a bit of tv, or read some books. We cuddle on the sofa or I give DD a bit of CBeebies playtime island while I have a cup of tea. I justify it with the fact that it’s educational!

My DD (just turned 3) dropped her nap about the same age.

I either pop on a movie about the same time as nap time used to be or let her use the kindle for a bit to play Numberblocks or peppa pig whilst I mentally recharge on the sofa with a coffee!

I'm quite relaxed with screen time anyway as I think there's a time and place for it, as long as it's not for hours and it's part of playing//creating//reading and outside time.

She's happy, I'm happy and calm and therefore a better parent, so everyone wins!

Notanotherhun- this happened to us at 2.5, it’s awful! Not to mention he wasn’t ready and would have tired meltdowns by about 5pm, but refused to nap.

You do get used to it though, and as he gets older he’ll get better at amusing himself. Ours does, but has to be in the same room as us.
