Will my baby wake up later if I shift bed time?

If I put my 8mo to bed 30 mins later, will she wake up 30 mins later? She currently goes to bed around 6.45pm once bathed, and wakes up at exactly 7am like clockwork everyday (plus 2 night feed wakes).

We are not morning people and don't start work till 10am so with DH wfh we are inclined to wake up at 7.30 rather than 7 and capitalise on sleep!

I know we are really lucky by the way!!

Is this ridiculous or could it be possible?!

Not in my experience. Try it though!

Try shifting her bedtime in 10 minute increments every 3 nights.

My DS was a dreadful sleeper so we tried lots of different approaches! Cut down on daytime nap which didn't help and when he was 2 we used to keep h up til nearly 9pm. Sadly it didn't help. He's just an early riser.
But give it a go, I'm sure it works for some kids. Good luck!

Mine wouldn’t, and still won’t age 8 and 6 - they wake before 7 no matter what.

But yours sounds like a far far better sleeper Envy so it may work for you!

ForeverBubblegum · 05/03/2021 13:13

Mine doesn't, and at 4 is still an early riser (around 6am). I've tried several times over the years, but never managed to shift his wake up time, later bedtime just means we're both tired and grumpy.

Potterythrowdown · 05/03/2021 13:14

No. Probably get up even earlier. They do it on purpose

FTEngineerM · 05/03/2021 13:16

I don’t know the scientific answer but our DC wakes up the same time regardless of when he goes to sleep. 6:30 😬

yomellamoHelly · 05/03/2021 13:16

Two of mine were set to wake up at the usual time regardless (and be extra cranky). With the other one if he had a late night he would sleep in.

Gwegowygwiggs · 05/03/2021 13:19

No, probably the opposite. You can't shift bedtime by 30 mins without warning as she'll wake up earlier due to overtiredness, the best thing you can do is move bedtime back by 5-10 mins for a few nights and see if she wakes a bit later, if so, do 5-10 mins again for a few nights etc and go from there

zzzebra · 05/03/2021 13:23

It's possible but in my experience unlikely.

They'll get over tired and then have an awful nights sleep and you'll be cursing yourself.

6.45pm - 7am with 2 wake ups is pretty good going, as long as they are going back down easy after the feeds.

Aren't the clocks changing soon? Could you take advantage of that for a more natural change to a later bed time. Rather than risk messing with a schedule that seems to work for the baby.

I hate to say it, but my Dd1 is 5 and I've been trying all sorts of ways since she was about 18months. She goes to slee between 7/7:30 and wakes at 5:30. We've had the odd family party or firework night where she went to bed at 10pm, still woke before 6. I've tried shifting bedtime by 10 mins each night, still wakes... even when we are away or staying somewhere else, still wakes at 5:30. Even when we've been abroad and there is a time difference and we've lost or gained hours. 5 frigging 30 Confused
