Are these still a thing? If so, are they even happening because of COVID restrictions?

Youngest is coming up to 2 and is barely talking, would really like to speak to a HV to check everything is okay 😕

We were sent the forms in the post (nearly 6 months after DD turned 2) and asked to fill them out at home and call the number on the letter if we had any concerns. It might be worth giving the HV team a call now though if you have concerns. Best of luck.

My little girl was 2 at the start of jan and just had her 2 year review invite. Phoned to book it & is a phone appointment only but they did say if I had any concerns they'd see us face to face.
If you're worried about their speech I'd definitely make contact with the hv if you can (ours had contact details in their red book) & they can give you advice.

If it helps my son said about 2 words (& one of them was a bit iffy) when he was 2. He understood what i asked him to do & would point to pictures in books etc.. but just refused to say anything or even copy words. By the time we got to his 2 year check at about 2 1/4 he was saying so much more & then he just flew from there. If it's clear your little one understands and can communicate with you in non verbal ways then I'm sure they will start speaking before you know it. If they don't seem to understand when you talk & don't follow simple instructions then I'd definitely push to get some support.

We just had ours - they sent out the forms and then we had a video call. They do them a bit later here though so LO was 27 months.

If you’re concerned about speech, contact your HV anyway. We had a referral and online speech therapy in the first lockdown. It was brilliant.

It depends on your area. In my area they are being offered in the clinic but also give options to do home visits and online appointments. If you're concerned though contact your health visitor and hopefully they will make you an appointment to discuss

mindutopia · 05/03/2021 13:39

Yes, they are still being offered here, but done remotely by phone. They send you the same questionnaire as always, but then instead of reviewing it face to face, they will do it by phone. But mine was virtually the same as for my older dc, which was 5 years ago.

Often they don't happen until 2 year and 3-4 months, not bang on 2 years, so it will probably still be a bit.

OpposableThumbs2 · 05/03/2021 13:41

In my area they do a 3 year review instead, but yes, they are still going ahead but on the phone.

My son had his today online and he is 28 months old, I thought it was easier doing it online and they just send you the forms in the post. I did have concerns about my sons speech at 2 years old but nursery reassured me it was normal. The health visitor wasn't concerned today but his speech has literally come on in the last 2 months. The health visitors in my area are happy to speak on the phone but it can take a couple of days for them to get back to you.

The normal range for speech is first words between 9 months and 2 years, a huge range! One of my DD's was 3 nearly 4 before consistently using the same sound for a word, her younger sister was 2 yrs 6 mos. Elder is autistic but fully verbal and member of university debating society, younger is dyslexic but at an even better university! Please don't unduly worry but do raise with your gp/hv - expect them to say give it until September though!
