Baby rice for 9 month old?

Can I add baby rice to my babies home made chilli's and stews instead of rice? He's not great with lumps yet. I'm really paying attention to him getting all his food groups every day (allergies so have to get creative) and I need to get more carbs in him

The packets I can see say 4-6 months but isn't it just rice?

Tia

Of course. The 4-6 months is a minimum age not a maximum!

What's in baby rice? It is actual rice or something else?

I'd just boil some rice, stir in the stew/chilli then blitz with a hand blender to reduce the lumps.

Alternatively, boil a peeled potato and smash it down a bit with a fork.

If baby rice is just plain rice blitzed then sure - save the work, just use that.

Wow am I an idiot- I thought it was the maximum lol, like suggesting once their 6 months it's not nutritious enough. Doh

It's just ground rice - they sell it in the world foods aisle for far less money btw!

You could try some cous cous since it's so small?

BobbitWormNightmares · 28/02/2021 18:33

Does ground rice need to be cooked though?

He's wheat free, he's tried free from cous cous but it's not like normal stuff, I find it very gritty even after it's cooked, and he doesn't seem to like it. The most carbs he's getting at the mo is readybrek and I really want to add rice, and I batch cook and freeze all his meals so that I can prepare them quickly during the day - he's super clingy so I wouldn't have time to cook and blend normal rice to add to his little ice cubes.

It's rice flour different to ground rice? I think baby rice is rice flour. So maybe that's cheaper without all the baby branding?

I don't think ground rice is the same as baby rice because you have to boil it like real rice. Baby rice you just mix with milk or water. I think it might be different from rice flour too though... not sure.
