Question regarding 6 month old in cloth who doesn't seem to move much!

Hi sorry the title question may be a bit confusing.
My DS is a little over 6 months old and we have been using cloth since he was 3 weeks old, we have finally settled on using Bumbles which we love (we did try fuzzi's but not for us)
However there is a little thing that is niggling me (I know it shouldn't as all babies develop and reach milestones at different rates) but my DS doesn't seem to be very mobile yet. The family and friends who don't use cloth keep telling me that his nappy is holding him back as they think it is too bulky!
He wiggles his bottom around and shuffles back a bit using his feet but he doesn't seem to be anywhere near rolling over or pulling himself forward (or backwards) on his front. He can just about sit for a couple of seconds unsupported now.
Can any of you cloth using ladies advise me on tips to get him moving and what you did to help your big bummed little ones.
I give him plenty of opportunities with his nappy off and make sure the wraps and his trousers aren't too tight.
Maybe I am being paranoid and let him do it at his own pace (he is very long & chunky )
Feel better for getting it off my chest, thanks

I think he will be fine, it is such a myth that cloth naps make them move less...Ds1 was a great mover and the only thing we found restrictive about the nappies was getting trousers to fit!!

Take no notice, he is just contemplating his surroundings, nay plotting wait till he gets to actually DO stuff, you'll wish he'd sat still a bit longer!

(I found the nappies helped Ds get a sense of balance, having a larger 'floor area' as it were..)

I had this too. I don't think dd did roll as easily as some, but she took to walking better as it hurt alot less when she fell down on her bottom, especially when she landed on her toys! She looked qute shocked when she fell over when in disposables(we were on holiday) and found it hurt her bottom more and she got more bruises.
He'll be fine I'm sure.

People do talk a lot of nonsense but look at the evidence. Did you, your parents and grandparents not develop just fine? Don't forget its not that long ago that cloth was the norm.

my little man is just under 6 months, and I don't think the cloth makes any difference (have had 3 in disposables too) and hes rolling over, my 4th which was my first clothy iyswim didn't roll or crawl until he was around 7 months, but then he walked at 10 months, and hasn't stopped since, They are all different and he'll do it when hes ready, and you probablly wont be!

People love to knock the cloth I am afraid . I had this too with my first, people even saying dd1 would be bow legged , what like all of our generation and the one before and the one before that?????
Well done on using the cloth. They are just jealous and feeling guilty .

hi
both my girls are cloth babies and it hasnt stopped them at all. DD1 was crawling at 8mths and walking at 13mths. Dd2 is 10mths today and has been walking for about 2 weeks and crawling from 6mths which was the same as ds. He will move when he is ready. All dc are different and cloth bottoms provide more cushioning..lol

NAB3sparklesandflashes · 05/11/2007 14:39

Years and years ago all babies were in cloth and they all developed fine. Try not to worry. My eldest didn't crawl until 10 months but still walked at 13.

nappyzone · 05/11/2007 22:40

my mainly sposie wearing daughter was slow with all her milestones and didnt crawl till 12 months - my lardy big bummed cloth boy has been on the move rolling and the likes since mega early and is one on thurs and is on the verge of walking so what im saying is its a load of old tosh - Cloth rocks and its darn good airbag material for bottys that fall! Gawd i love firework night!

hana · 05/11/2007 22:44

the cloth won't be interfering with anything - I had a baby in cloth and she was crawling at 5 months and walking at 11m.

you go with the cloth nappies, makes people feel better and assauges their guilt at not using them when they make comments like that

pinkspottywellies · 05/11/2007 22:45

My dd is in terries and was rolling at 5 months and moving around much earlier than boys the same age. Our NCT group all came one afternoon and the 3 boys just sat there while she rolled around taking thier toys I think they all do thier own thing but IME nappies won't stop them!

NellyTheElephant · 06/11/2007 14:13

I have two DDs, DD1 was in disposables throughout and DD2 has been in cloth since about 3 weeks old. Both started crawling at just over 8 months, so no difference at all there. DD2 (now nearly 9 months) is incredibly active - way more so than DD1 was, rolling around, pulling up to standing, crawling at lightening spped. I don't think the nappy type has any bearing on the issue, they just do what they do.

If it was his nappy holding him back, he would be doing it when he isn't wearing a nappy,.

charlie33 · 06/11/2007 16:50

Both my dd's are clothies, dd1 was very late doing anything and dd2 crawled at 4mths and walked at 8 so couldn't possibly be holding her back. People are just jealous because you have committed to something that they would probably like to but can't be bothered.

ejayjay · 06/11/2007 19:47

Thanks everyone your comments have made me feel good for using cloth and told me to chill out about it. You are right he will do it in his own time I just wanted some positive reassurance as everyone my end were giving me negative comments.
