stop me going over to the dark side that is disposables!

Have been using prefold nappies very happily since dd came from home from hospital almost 6 months ago. have loved them, got into a goopd routine with washing and thought we made a great decision until....We went away this weekend, it was an impromptu decision so we used disposables. Currently weaning DD and so quite stinky nappies with interesting consistencies. OMG it was such a luxury to just chuck em in the bin, not have to worry about getting the poo off, washing, nappy buckets...etc!

Quick make me see the error of my ways before i flog my cloth and convert to disposables........

DON'T DO IT!!!!!

eleanorsmum · 05/11/2007 10:52

don't do it! they are ok for trips away but you've managed before and you will again! now back to the washing machine you go my dear

lljkk · 05/11/2007 10:54

Maybe it's a sign you need a diferent sort of liner / liner system? You could make the liners disposable (flushable or rags or whatever), but not the whole rest of nappy.

Didn't you notice a funny smell about the disposals, plus the amount of money you were literally throwing in the bin.

Walk away from the plastic and come back to the light. Plus fluffy bottoms are so cute, I miss our nappies

katwith3kittens · 05/11/2007 11:26

WHY ?

is the poo really so bad now you are weaning ?

If it is ... just imagine what it will be like sat for 2 weeks in your wheelie bin ... Eeeeewww

Bodkin · 05/11/2007 12:16

I remember with DD1 when we first started weaning the poos were AWFUL (and frequent, and gave her terrible nappy rash) so full sympathy to you. I think I just gave myself a "cloth holiday" for a couple of weeks until things calmed down a bit. It doesn't have to be either/or Give yourself a break if you want, and you'll soon find your itching to get the bucket and liners out again!

Bodkin · 05/11/2007 12:17

And I put flushable liners in the disposables, so I could still put the worst of the poo down the loo and not in the bin.

moljam · 05/11/2007 12:29

think of us with cows milk intolerant child in cloth which for months went undiagnosed and were still trying to get hang of it.if we can do ten runny poo cloth nappies a day, your weaning nappies should smell of roses!!!

think of money, think of enviroment, how much nicer cloth is on your dds bottom!

Orchide · 05/11/2007 13:56

thanks all....After a major nappy folding session and lots of big cuddles with dd and her big cloth covered bum im fine again. The madness has passed but thanku for all your thoughts and words of wisdom!!!!

Bodkin, dont need that cloth holiday right now but is a good thing to bear in mind, also the notion tha tdoesnt have to be either/or!

Glad you are back on the straight and narrow!! Like others have said, when I started weaning I also started to use flushable liners, which make disposing of the poo much easier - I use some loo roll to wipe everything up in the flushable liner then chuck in the loo - v easy. If the nappy is just wet then I put the liner in the nappy bin to be washed and reused, they last about 3 or 4 washes before disintegrating.
