Puking Boy

My DS is 2 yrs 7 months. Last Monday morning at 4.30am, he woke up puking and with diarrhoea. He seemed to stabilise again after a visit to the GP.

Then, on Wednesday night, he screamed the house down with what I think was earache. We managed to get some Medised down him - he hates medicine - and he went back to sleep.

Now again, on Sunday night, he's listless, tired, flinches when I touch his glands and he's just puked up all over me. He strHe's back in bed now.

He has seemed fine every morning since the first episode of vomiting. My DH also has painful earache and glands.

I'm just worried. Should I let him sleep and wait until tomorrow morning to get medical attention again? Is there a bug going around? Sorry to sound so useless but I feel panicked. I know kids get ill but I'm not really experienced in this type of scenario yet and I'm concerned.

cant be morlars cutting can it?? my son was very pukey for around a week with them, and they came at about 2ish.....i'd let him sleep it off and if he's still ill in the morning get him seen to again!!

It could be molars. If you are very worried why dpn't you call NHS 24?

BalsamicVinegar · 04/11/2007 21:21

I don't think teeth can make you ill.

Miserable, clingy and lots of crying but not ill.

Deffo sounds like he has what your dh has.

I'd go back to gps tomorrow.

my son was ill with the pain of his molars....and i am ill with pain, so unless my son and i just have that 'special bond' i dont know then......

WinkyWinkola · 04/11/2007 21:24

I've tried NHS Direct but they're so busy tonight they're not taking calls unless it's an emergency. Silly really as I'd call 999 for an emergency not NHS Direct.

I'm just worried in case it's appendicitis or something like that.

Definitely go to GP's tomorrow.

Has he got a temperature? High temperature can make them puke. My son always throws up when he gets tonsillitis, because of the temperature.

StarryStarryNight · 04/11/2007 21:27

If you are worried about appendicitis. Lay him on his back, lift his right leg up (you can have the knee at an angle, it doesnt have to be straight). If he screams with pain as you do this, there is a chance.

My oldest had appendicitis, and I have had it too. You do feel extremely unwell with it. And you get a temperature, usually quite high, around 40 celsius.

WinkyWinkola · 04/11/2007 21:28

He gets so vexed when I try to take his temperature. He hates it. I don't want to stress him out more. He doesn't feel hot though.

He's sleeping now. But he's still looking green.

Starry, I'll do the knee test. Thank you so much.

DH says it's a bug. He's quite relaxed about it but I'm not experienced in this kind of thing.

I really appreciate all your posts. Thank you.

Has he got a high temp? You know him better than anyone else, you're the best judge, if you're worried 'phone the local gp and get the emergency number, phone that and see what they say. Look out for all the obvious ones, light, sore neck, rash etc... Don't be afraid of looking like a worrier, I've been sent away from the docs many a time with my 4 ds's , but at least I can sleep easy after!

StarryStarryNight · 04/11/2007 21:33

I splashed out on the Braun ear thermometer, it is good, taking the temperature is really quick, and accurate. (Prior to that I used to measure Rectum.... Most accurate as it is the body Core temperature you get)

rachaelsara · 04/11/2007 21:34

Why do I always put ds, mine are all dd's!!!??? My eldest puked with tonsils - often with blood from the offending tonsils!Very scarey and yucky.

StarryStarryNight · 04/11/2007 21:36

Yes, terribly yukky and terribly sudden and with no warning, sometimes in the middle of playing. Especially if he had just had something to drink. Reflex, due to the narrowing from swollen tonsils.

annoyingdevil · 06/11/2007 17:42

My dd just had a vomiting bug, followed by an ear infection (which she had antibiotics for) Maybe it's the same thing. TBH the only thing to worry about with this bug is dehydration, so as long as he's keeping some fluids down, he should be fine
