Cloth nappies

Hi, just looking for a bit of advice about cloth nappies. I’m using them for the first time. Currently using muslins with Rumparooz wraps. I’m looking to buy my next set as baby is getting too big for these.

I’m planning on getting Bubblebubs BIG nappies- anyone use these and have any opinion on them? Do you only need a booster at night?

For the wrap I was looking at either Motherease Rikki or airflow wrap or Catcher wrap. Anyone used either and have any opinion?

I had also looked at Baba + Boo one size pocket nappy. From looking I’m not sure these are as good but seem simpler.

Thanks for any advice

I use the motherease airflow wraps and I like them. They’ve got good elasticated bits round the legs and are soft on the skin. They don’t come in the cutest patterns though, if that’s something you care about! I don’t mind, but I know some people really love the prints.

We love the baba & boo BTP nappies, nice and easy to fit etc and they last well too.
It's worth looking on some preloved pages to see if you can get a few different ones cheap before investing in a full set that you might not get on with.

We've got a few different nappies that we like, all are pocket ones: my little gumnut, little lambs, nappy noos, modern cloth nappy.
We also have a close pop in nappy which I'm starting to love and going to get a few more, and we're trying some bambino mio all in ones today.
The one nappy that I have got on with so far is Peachi baby and that's just because I can't seem to get the fit right but it's a gorgeous nappy so I'm determined!

It depends what you're using at night and how much of a heavy wetter baby is. My DS will fully saturate a little lambs fitted nappy and so I need to boost that with a hemp insert.
There are lots of groups on Facebook if you're on it that are full of excellent advice. Cloth nappy nerds is a good one. Smile

I don't know anything about the nappies you're looking at but I can highly recommend the Motherease wraps. I've had both and prefer the Airflow - I find it easier to do the poppers each time than try to get the velcro right. The Airflow are designed to be loose fitting around the legs so if your baby is mobile there's less chance of rubbing and chafing. They are also bomb proof!

Thanks everyone. @PeacefulInTheDeep if the airflow are loose fitting around the legs do you not end up with poo leaks? Sorry if that’s a stupid question!

We use a different brand but if you’re on Facebook join the group clothbum mums and dads and you will get as much advice S you could possibly hope for!

We use tots bots easy fits daytime and tots bots bamboozle with wrap nighttime. Both combos work well, wash nicely, and easy to use

HappyAsASandboy · 25/02/2021 11:29

Motherease Airflow nappies are like black magic. They are loose around the legs so no rubbing or "sock marks" and yet the poo magically stays inside. I have no idea how, but 4 babies over 10 years and I am still using the airflows I bought second hand 10 years ago!

I also really like Petit Lulu pull up wraps. They have soft fleecy cuffs, so are also soft on the legs and tummy area. They're also bombproof in my experience, and no poppers/velcro to get right.

I put these wraps over anything I've got! Terries, muslins with a pad folded terry, bamboozles, little lamb... anything absorbent will work under these wraps.

PeacefulInTheDeep · 25/02/2021 11:42

We've had hardly any poo leaks with the Airflow wraps. Like a PP has said, I've no idea how they work but they are absolutely brilliant. We use shaped nappies underneath (Bambinex Teddies) and they have some elastic around the legs and waist so I suppose that helps with containment.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 25/02/2021 11:53

I have had good success with LIttle Lambs nappies with blueberry Capri wraps over the top! But to be honest I only use them at night and use pocket nappies in the day - much simpler! I mostly use BumGenius, Alva and little bloomz

jamcrumpets · 25/02/2021 11:58

We use tots bots bamboozle too with paper liners which work great in the day time. We do actually reuse the liners to and they wash well for about 3 cycles, this doesn't bode well for the claim that the liners can be flushed! So we throw them in the bin after they've been used a few times.

Yet to find a night nappy which doesn't leak so we've stuck to sposies for the night and cloth for the day.

Coupleofdaysandcounting · 25/02/2021 12:00

Great, thanks. I’ll definitely give the airflow wraps a go then.

Up until now I have been putting a disposable nappy on at night as I found the Muslim/rumparooz needs to be changed too often and I was ending up having to change his clothes in the middle of the night because of leaks. I’ll try again at night once I’ve got some new wraps

@jamcrumpets - have you tried adding an extra insert into the bamboozle at night?

jamcrumpets · 25/02/2021 14:54

@Caspianberg yes we put boosters in during the night and doubling up but it still seems to leak. We've tried various wraps around them too. Not sure if we just a particularly leaky child at night! Even the sposies in the morning are very heavy, sometimes even the filling bursting out of the seams!

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 25/02/2021 15:28

@jamcrumpets one thing to potentially try if you haven't already (once you've got your new wraps) is a booster between the nappy and the wrap. I used to put a little lambs nappy on my Dd1 then a pre-fold between the nappy and the wrap. She was a very heavy wetter!
