Car seat for tall babies

Hi,

I've been looking into the All in All Cosatto car seat for my 8 month old. He's very close to being the legal limit for his current car seat. Any opinions would be great, thanks!

For a tall baby you'd be better of with a seat that rear faces to 25kg as otherwise they'll grow out of it before you get to a safe boostering age. Have a look at car seat advice uk Facebook group as lots of advice on there. Maybe something like the axkid move or minikid would be good.

Have you tried pulling their bum right down to the buckle as you might find you have more time left than you think.

Extended rear facing car seats have a large shell as they’re designed to hold a (typical) 4 year old.

The axkid I believe has one of the largest shells on the market and a 25kg harness, ive known kids 6/7+ that can still comfortably fit in them.

After lots of research I got my tall 9 month old an Axkid Minikid this week. It rear faces up to 25kg. You can install it far back on the back seat so there’s plenty of leg room to grow into. They’re a Swedish company. Expensive but should last years. I’m very happy with it so far.

Like advice above, I researched mainly from the car seat UK facebook group and knew that I wanted a rear-facer up to 25k because of the safety. We went for the Diono Radian 5 in the end just because it does have more flexibility in moving to forward facing if we want to in the future - if child gets fussy rear facing or car sick. DC is a very tall 2 year old, but will keep him rear facing for as long as possible and this seat will last us ages.

I think I had the Britax 2-way elite for my very tall boy. I didn't discover it until he was a little older than that. From the 'in car safety centre' and they gave good advice also.

Definitely axkid minikid

Britax maxway extended rear facing is also good, the Axkid didn't fit in my car as tried by the in car safety centre.

Definitely look for something extended rear facing. We have a Klippan Triofix (they are expensive, but there are lots of other more affordable options - there just weren't when we originally bought it years ago). It lasts RF easily til 4. My eldest was in it RF til 4.5, and current 3 year old still has plenty of room. Then it FF as a booster seat up til 12 years, so there really is no way to outgrow it.

If you plan to have more children, a good ERF seat is an investment. With our two, we've gotten nearly 6 years of use out of ours so far, and will get at least 8 years from it before we move to another high back booster.

We've got the cosatto come and go I rotate, it's extended rear facing to approx 4 years old, DS is a tall two year old and still has plenty of room. It's suitable from birth and has inserts you remove at certain stages and extendable headrest etc. It is heavy and bulky, but all extended rear faces are.

We have DS1 in an Axkid Minikid and love it. We’ll be getting DS2 the same once he’s outgrown his infant carrier.
