Tantrum when leaving nursery

A few times now when I pick my son up from nursery, he has a tantrum. It happened again today and I'm feeling embarrassed and like I'm a bad mummy, that he doesn't want to come home with me. I'm a first time mum and always feel anxious about how to handle situations. I tried to get him to walk and hold my hand but he wasn't having any of it. In the end I had to pick him up screaming as he kept lying on the ground. He is 17 months..What I'm looking for is reassurance - has this happened to anyone else? Everyone else's kids went with them without a fuss! Also any tips on how to handle this?

Don't take it personally, take your own emotion out of it (hard i know), anyone judging doesn't know anything.
As people say it's transitions that are hard, also tiredness and relief that you actually came back from the separation. Routine can help but also allocate some time to reconnect when you pick up, spend a few minutes 1 to 1 time before you start to require executive functioning like walking home or getting in the car seat. I like the bribe idea but don't think of it as a bribe it's a way of reconnecting and a nice routine which will reassure you child.
But the main point is don't take it personally, hard i know but behaviour is communication of a need, and it's just the need to be safe and to reconnect and relax! Good luck.
