Question about Wonderoos

We just started using real nappies on our DD aged two months. We tried a selection but found Wonderoos ticked all the boxes and so we've bought a few.

But now we're having leaks and nappy rash. Presumably we're not putting them on tight enough or putting enough stuffing inside them. My question is: do you use the Wonderoo inserts, or other inserts? We've been stuffing them with flannels, terry, prefolds... anything we can lay our hands on. Are the Wonderoo brand inserts shaped or rectangular, and would you recommend I buy some? (They are more expensive than what we've been using.)

Hi, I use the wonder-full inserts that are made for the wonderoos, they are kind of hourglass shaped. I personally felt it was worthwhile buying them because then you have them for the life of the nappy, the small part for when they are little, the big part for later on and both parts together for more absorbancy. They do seem expensive especially compared to prefolds or flannels but if you think you will be using them for a couple of years..

The specific inserts are shaped to fit the nappy, the horglass shape means the nappy is not pulled out of shape as it may be with a prefold that is wider than the slimmest part of the Wonderoo. If a pocket nappy is stretch out of shape too much it may cause wicking from the fleece lining. Are your inserts soaking when the leaking occus. Can you tell where the leak comes from, the legs or the waistband?

We got Wonderoos for our first (2005) and we only got a year out of them despite drying them on the clothes line and all, the elastic went in the end. However, inserts... we did have the microfibre and the hemp ones. They fit much better than prefolds. If you can borrow or buy an official insert and a sewing machine, why not just sew and cut the little inny bits into a prefold that will make it the hourglass shape? That's what I wished we'd done and saved a packet. My daughter always needed both inserts even from a couple of months, and having the thickness mostly at the front (the little one over the big one) did mean the nappies were less bulky.
