Smokers around your baby

At what age will/did you stop asking smokers to wash their hands and face/brush their teeth/change their jumper before holding your baby if they have had a smoke, if you ever did at all?
Thank you!

I was lucky in that I didn't have close family smokers to negotiate this with, just one friend that loves a distance away. For me my limit was 6 months and I managed to just hold off until baby was 6 months before we met up. Must be really difficult with grandparents.

I've never asked anyone

Anyone who smelled of smoke would be staying away from my kids for a long time, not just when they're babies.

Luckily I don't have close family that smoke, I can see that would be tough.

We never had that problem when the children were young but everyone knows we don’t smoke and if they want to they do it outside. That includes my eldest daughter when visiting. It’s just accepted and so far no problems.

We never did although the few of our relatives who smoked did use to wash their hands without being asked prior to holding DC until they were about...6mo? But only a few of our relatives smoke and they only used to see DC a few times a year.

Honestly I don't really ever want anyone smelling of smoke near him, they can go outside if they need to that badly , my dad/ his grandad died because of it so the smell really repulses me.

Thanks everyone- I ask because my FIL is a heavy smoker and dp still asks him to wash and change jumper before holding him, he's 9 months. FIL has always seemed urked by this and doesn't see the danger, says he grew up in pubs where you couldn't see across the room for smoke😂 he is recovering from lung cancer and doesn't/won't see the correlation. Just wanted to get an idea of if we were being a bit over protective or not
