Comfort milk

Due to lots of breastfeeding issues I had to supplement meals with formula. I stared with C & G first formula but baby was fussy, crying lots and sometimes projectile vomiting. A friend recommended we try comfort milk. We're on day three now and he hasn't poo'd. He keeps farting and straining for a poo. We've been doing bicycle legs, belly massages and giving him cooled boiled water. Is it normal for this to happen whilst his belly adjusts to a new milk? Should we just carry on rather than chopping and changing? I've been giving some infacol before each feed to try and get trapped gas out. He's 8 weeks old.

It might be the infacol - DD was like that when she had it. A couple of days after stopping she was fine. Also on comfort milk.

I would check with health visitor, I always thought comfort milk was for babies with reflux and that couldn't keep normal formula down? Might be wrong! Gripe water I found good for upset tummy/constipation. Also I'd double check about the water as thought babies shouldn't have any water until on solids x

Comfort milk is for 'colic and constipation' so it could be more likely to be the infacol. Comfort milk cured my babies constipation but all babies are different so ask HV for advice x

I was told we didn't need infacol when on comfort milk. Try stopping the infacol and see if that works? Sometimes my DD can go 2 days with no poop and she's on comfort milk. Very smelly on comfort milk though, especially her farts🙈

He's just done a mega poo this morning. Made me heave!! Hopefully his belly will get used to the milk if we maintain some consistency. He has his eight week check up today so I'll speak to the gp

We changed to comfort milk due to reflux. He went to pooing every 2 days and it was green and a thick consistency. It also reeked the high heaven. He wasn't unhappy though.

2 weeks later, the consistency has gone back to lentil curry and is more yellow with bits of green, it also doesn't stink as much. So may just take a couple of weeks for baby's stomach to get used to it.

Comfort milk has completely solved our reflux problem and much less gassy.

Should also say he's now pooing once or twice a day, occasionally he goes a couple of days without a poo still but not often.

Our DD had silent reflux and colic. We switched her to C&G Comfort milk at about 3 weeks old. Took her about a week to get used to it but she was pooing well after that.

It’s for colic and constipation. I think it has some oil in it so it’s easier to digest and move through the digestive system better than a normal formula. My HV told me that a comfort formula and Infant Gavisgon shouldn’t be taken together as they essentially cancel each other out in terms of how they work. It might be the same with Infacol, maybe check with your HV.

It’s also fine to give an ounce of cooked boiled water here and there to your LO before 6 months to help them with constipation.

My son was like this. Fine on breastmilk but formula made him so upset and puke it all up.

He's allergic to cows milk. The formula top ups were bad news for him. I had to push and push for a diagnosis though.

I'd never recommend comfort milk though.

The GP said she often hears of comfort milk causing constipation and doesn't think my boy will get used to it if it's upset his stomach already. I've gone back to first formula. I like infacol as I find he brings up his wind much easier. It says online that there's no side effects to using infacol too
