Potty training - 3yo never done a solid poo!

My 3yo DS has never done a solid poo - they are always a very runny smooth texture and we can't get to the bottom of why. Cut dairy, lactose, gluten, yeast... and still they aren't solid. He eats plenty of veg and fruit i.e. fibre.

It's making potty training a nightmare. We tried judt before Christmas, and he was fine on the weeing but never made it in time for poo's. Trying again now (he's 3 next week) and to be honest he's not doing well on the wee's or the poo's, but he is more verbal now so telling us his poo is 'strong' and 'shoots out of his bottom'.

Anyone experienced this issue? I'm wondering whether it is something genetic, he lacks something in his gut perhaps. Next step is the doctors, but thought I'd ask here first in case anyone could pinpoint anything for me to guide the doctor with...

I found once I started potty training their poos naturally became more solid as they weren’t able to poo whenever they wanted, they had to actually go to the toilet/potty and their poos had time to dry out slightly and become solid. Personally I wouldn’t worry to much but if you’re concerned can you call your HV? Are they nice/approachable?

Toddler diahorrea is a thing - I know you've said you have cut out various food groups but have you seen the doctor? I assume you have. Have you had a referral for specialist help?

My dd was like this. I asked similar question. It is toddler diarrhea. I though toddler diarrhoea was just for a week or so, but not his case.

Dd is 4 now and has normal poo.

Don’t cut out food groups without medical advice.

Ok, thanks. So did your daughter just grow out of it? Or did the doctor prescribe / suggest anything?

Yes she just grew out of it. We didn’t potty train till she was almost 3.5 and I think by then they were getting more solid and less frequent. It wasn’t actually a problem with toilet training so can’t help there.
When she was a young toddler she’d poo maybe 7 times a day. By 3.5 it was maybe 3 times a day now aged 4 it’s 1 to 2 times a day. And they are more solid now.

Even as a baby she pooed frequently so doctors were never concerned because it had always been normal for her and she was otherwise healthy.

When I had dd2 it was such a nice surprise to just have to deal with “normal” dirty nappy like once a day! Made me realise how much harder it’d bern with dd1!

I have a 11 and a 14 years old. I just want to suggest that maybe he is not eating enough also what about dates and bananas adding it to yogurt, that may help. Jacket potatoes are good with spaghetti or baked beans, kids love fish fingers, anyway good luck

I remember now the doctor gave me some handouts on toddler diarrhoea from a couple of nhs trusts, but they were online too. They had dietary suggestions in I think. I’ll see if I can find them.
