Toddler towers

Kitchen helpers/toddler towers/whatever else they're called.

Are they worth it? I want to cook and bake safely with the toddler but they do seem expensive, even second hand.

Thanks!

A big yes from me! We found one on Amazon a bit cheaper - £60 (I just checked and sadly no longer available) and my 18 month old absolutely loves it, it’s her favourite thing and she would spend all day up there if she could! The one I got had 3 height settings which I hope means it will last a long time.

I just got one couple days ago and my little girl loves it. She was constantly wanting to help in the kitchen and I don't trust her to stand safely on a chair. She now stands i the tower and can help without me constantly getting ready to stop her falling.
They are expensive but I got one from Etsy that was slightly cheaper than others I had seen, and it's so worth it

I have one for DS. So far he mainly likes to hide in it and fill it up with bits of Tupperware but I'm hoping he'll enjoy it more as time goes on.

I nearly didn't get one, as the price is just silly. I was embarrassed to spend so much money on something so simple. We tried using a chair, but had some very nasty falls Sad

But we love our tower now and use it for hours a day. I think I'm going to get a second for the baby. I just wish IKEA would come out with an affordable version.

My LO is 2.5 and we’ve used ours multiple times everyday since we bought it a year ago. It’s my ‘you might have never heard of these but you should TOTALLY get one’ recommendation to friends that have had babies since.

Brandysnapzzz · 18/02/2021 17:08

Fantastic, thank you all for the enthusiastic recommendations! I will investigate second hand options Smile

My toddler would use it to climb up on the counters.

NannyR · 18/02/2021 17:10

There is an IKEA hack where you can make your own fairly cheaply with a step stool.

NewMum0305 · 18/02/2021 17:24

Yes! Lucked out and got a used one for £20 and it’s so brilliant for cooking with my 23MO x

Welikebeingcosy · 18/02/2021 21:10

Yes I love it. Even though they are expensive you can always sell on when no longer in use and make some of the money back. Also there are DIY blogs online which show you how to make one with a stool and something else from IKEA for a much lower cost.

PinkDaydreams · 18/02/2021 21:35

Oh my goodness these look fab! There's one on eBay collection only for 99p but it's forever away from me, might help someone else though?
For those that have them, what age would you say they go up to please? I'm a bit reluctant to spend out over £100 on one if it isn't going to be used for long.

Mylittlesandwich · 18/02/2021 21:54

I got one for DS a few months ago, second hand for £30. It's brilliant. He "helps" DH cook and is much happier as he feels involved. He's 14 months now. We affectionately call it baby jail.

LetsAllSpeakScience · 18/02/2021 22:46

Definitely worth it, ours is used daily and allows easy interaction whilst the toddler does puzzles/colouring/play-dough on the worktop and I prepare meals. It also keeps them contained whilst they have a snack, if you don't want to use the highchair.

The ikea stool hack is pretty easy and I think it cost us about £7 for the extra wood on top of the £20 for the stool. Do you have a furloughed friend with some basic DIY skills who would be happy to make one for you?!

suziedoozy · 18/02/2021 22:48

I have a ‘Little Helper’ that I picked up second hand and she loves it to help cook. It have various heights & I think it could be useful for a long time as she is tiny! Well worth it

aapple · 19/02/2021 17:19

@pinkDaydreams I'd say a really study one would be useful until they are old enough to just cook at the counter with no step. Not sure what age that would be. But I can imagine a 4-5 year old using it.

Thank you, my boy is three so not sure how much use he would get, I'll keep my eye out for a second hand one

We got a happy helper stool when my son was one, it was a godsend. He's now 2.5 years and stands on a stool as he's too heavy to lift into it. However it's in great condition, will do our next baby then il sell it. Keep your eye on Gumtree and market place, seen some for thirty pounds on there.

Can he not climb into it? My 18 month old loves getting up and down from hers! Not a happy helper though so don’t know if they’re different?
FizzingWhizzbee123 · 20/02/2021 19:05

We did the IKEA stool hack, although after about 6 months, I think he’d be fine just on the IKEA stool by itself

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 20/02/2021 19:05

*I mean 6 months of use, not 6 months old! We started about 18 months
