I'm a ftm and my 4 month old has a tongue tie which we found out when he was born but I just noticed yesterday hes lip tied
I mentioned to the doctor about hes tongue tie and he said nothing needed to be done

But I'm worried about both I've no experience of them and worried they'll cause him difficulties when hes older anyone any experiences with these

What did you do
Did they affect your child
Where they fine left alone

All help would be great I'm driving my self insane googling

My dd is 2 in May and she had both. She still has lip tie but she saw a specialist who didn't think it would cause issues (obv don't know this until they present) I couldn't breastfeed and she had really bad reflux which the dr puts down to her lip tie been so bad. They don't want to cut it though. Her speech is coming on well but she doesn't eat alot but never has so could just be her. I worried and worried but there really is no point, along as they're feeding and gaining weight and don't seem to be in pain by it but if you're concerned reach out further. I rang health visitor who told me to go to dentist (normal one) who then referred us further x

My ds was undiagnosed until he was 3 (despite awful problems bf, reflux etc). I then found out my brother had undiagnosed tt into adulthood (had it sorted privately) and wished it had been treated when he was tiny.

I pressed gp and dentist for a referral and it was done under ga a few months later.

Can you see a private doctor op? If I'd have known about my ds tt I'd have gone private in a heartbeat

My second had a bad tongue tie - almost all the way to the tip of his tongue. The midwife pointed it out when he was born, but it took me about 6 weeks of arguing with the NHS/breastfeeding consultants etc. to get it finally cut. They said it wasn't an issue, but my family back in the states are all dentists and really suggested getting it sorted, as even if it wasn't affecting feeding, it could affect speech later in life. If the NHS had continued to be difficult, I would have had it snipped privately.

I’m pretty sure my DD has tongue and lip tie - I mean her lip tie is very prominent but I’ve never had her checked (mostly because of Covid so no doctor/HV would see her). They said if she’s gaining weight then nothing would be done.

She could never stick her out or barely lift it up, she suffered with awful wind (bottle fed) and weaning didn’t go great to begin with but now that she’s 9 months I've noticed she’s now able to stick her tongue out and touch her top lip with it (she couldn’t do this before) so I think it’s loosening on it’s own. Learning to chew and move food around her mouth is probably helping that.

If you’re really concerned you could go private? Or keep pressing your GP or try a dentist.
