Baby ate paper

Hello! So i was looking after our 8 month old DD and may have dropped the ball. Think she ate about half an a4 sheet of paper...am i the worst dad ever and will tiny baby be ok? Thank you! She seems fine btw

It would take me a fair while to chew through half an A4 sheet of paper- how long was she alone for?
If she’s drinking fine then it’s not stuck in a balled up lump somewhere so will just be broken down, she will be fine.

Thats reassuring thank you! Maybe not quite that much...and the terrible thing was she wasnt alone! I was there! All happened so fast she wasnt very hungry at dinner but is crawling round with a big smile...must try better

My baby manages to eat tissue paper, cardboard etc all the time (not that we encourage it!). It'll be fine.

I’ve just been too slow to keep up with the speed tiny baby has learnt to move...toilet paper good tip! She would love that no doubt. Will keep my eyes open in future

And for that much paper i would call 111. That is a lot comparable to the size of her stomach, and her digestive system is still pretty immature. It could well cause a blockage and you might not see any signs for a few days. You need actual medical advice.

My son eats just about anything he finds, even on a freshly vacuumed floor he picks stuff up somehow to eat.
In the last month or so now he offers it to me first so i just take it off him, but really he has survived it. Loo roll is definitely a favourite though.

They eat paper fast!
My 9 month old I gave him an empty toilet roll the other day to hold and bring downstairs to recycle. He was in my arms the whole time but had still managed a large chunk of it in the time it took me to walk downstairs.

My daughter once ate the dog’s dinner and wasn’t even sick . I am sure your baby will be fine .

Sure she will be fine and these things happen but also quite shocked a baby managed to eat half a piece of a4 paper when you were with her..you obviously weren't watching her

I was there watching my baby play and he managed to eat a chunk polystyrene of polystyrene packaging from a present he’d just opened. I thought he was chewing toys as they are constantly chewing something. He was fine thankfully. These things happen even with you watching.

My daughters first solid food was a paper fairy cake case. I ate the cake, put the wrapper down next to her......she ate it. Was shocked. She was ok. She’ll still eat them now if they’re not taken off her! (She’s 8)

Thanks for the reassurance! Anyway i found some of the paper carefully stashed in her duplo so may have overestimated her appetite in my panic anyway she seems fine and a good wake up call! Did not see that coming! Anything edible sized is now a couple of feet off the ground and all loose toilet rolls out of sight!

To be honest you don't want to wrap then in cotton wool too much (metaphorical wool, otherwise they would eat it!)
We let our son have the bumps and scrapes and go for a reasonable level of baby proofing, he's already lost interest in most of the dangerous or non edible things that are lying around, the main thing is put the bleach etc away.

Happy to off read most comments are good as my 8 month old eat a tiny bit of paper I believe it was from when I ripped up an envelope has been drinking water since , playing and had 2 naps . Babies are going to eat anything . Think about nursery mud area when they are eating the mud, they eat sand , they eat uncooked rice that's been made to play with ... babies put almost anything in there mouth as long as baby isn't choking or turning blue then I'm sure baby is fine

Woah thats a blast from the past! DD is now 5 and so far eating paper 4 years ago has had no noticeable effects!

Wow yes mine too he's just turned 6 and if anything it's turned him into a book worm, he never stops reading!
