Bed wetting alarm?

Are these any good? I can see there’s some on Amazon, just wondering if we should try one. DS is almost 7 and has never been dry at night. His GP isn’t concerned, seems to think it’s just time that he needs. DS is otherwise a healthy and happy boy but seems to be a deep sleeper, and is becoming a bit embarrassed at having to wear a pull-up. We’ve tried the usual - going without pull-ups, he doesn’t drink squash etc or have massive amounts of liquid before bed, and he has a double wee (a wee when we come upstairs and then another before he goes to sleep) but other than a few random nights he’s still wet in the mornings.

Has anyone got any alarm success stories?

That’s great! Sounds like good progress!

Sounds like a good start OP.

We used to wet stop and it only took maybe 3 nights.... never had an accident since.

This was after 4 years of wet sheets (and refusal to wear a nappy) DSS at the time was 7 😄

We’ve had a couple of shockers....the last 2 nights the alarm has gone off at about 9.30pm, then 1am-ish, then again closer to 4am. Neither time has he been anywhere near awake. Bless him, it’s been exhausting. DH wants to leave the alarm for a while as he thinks it’s traumatising him, he does get really groggy and upset with the alarm (DS not DH!), but I want to persevere.

I’m going to be a bit stricter on the water before bed front - I never thought he drunk much before bed, but I noticed last night he glugged down half a bottle of water.

I’m glad it worked for your DSS Motherhentoall Star hopefully we’ll see some progress soon!

It took a few weeks for us.
Make sure he is drinking lots during the day and going to the bathroom every couple of doors during the day.

How are things going @ItsTheDramaMickILoveIt

Willbedry · 20/02/2021 09:40

Can I ask how long it took in total for you to get dry nights? School is what worries me. Whilst in lockdown I can control what he drinks and how often he wees but at school I found they weren’t helpful before and he wasn’t free to pee as often as he’d like as every child would then do the same and it would be too disruptive Hmm

Bluebutterfly36 · 20/02/2021 11:10

@ItsTheDramaMickILoveIt sorry you’ve had some bad nights. My DS was under the care of specialist enuresis nurses for many years and they always said it was absolutely critical that the last drink should be with the evening meal - absolutely nothing after that if you possibly can manage it.

@Willbedry have you spoken to the school nurse about this? Some children do need a special dispensation to be allowed to leave lessons. Our lovely nurses used to get so frustrated by teachers not allowing children to leave lessons and would get the consultant to write a very strongly worded letter to the relevant teacher as a result! It may be worth considering a referral from your GP to a specialist if your DC is struggling to stay dry at school.

We were under a urologist who wrote a letter explaining that dc needed to use the bathroom every two hours when his buzzer watch sounded and needed to drink regularly.
Actually our school were ok with it but the letter suggested that some schools weren't always.

Thanks for reply. Son is dry in day but it’s more that he’s not allowed to leave for toilet when he likes so therefore doesn’t drink much at school and downs loads in evening which isn’t helping night time wetting. He’s been dry in day since age 2. I will perhaps speak to head teacher and explain situation.

Thank you for asking Smile so good to hear others’ experiences. We’re still nowhere near dry - alarm is going off at all times, and he’s getting heartily sick of it now Sad. We were surprised he’s been wetting so early (10pm ish), as we assumed it was later. Definitely need to still watch the water swigging before bed as he does that sometimes.

School have been told he needs to go when he asks, thankfully they’ve been fine with that and really understanding.

We were also told that ds should sit down and do two wees just before bed to make sure his bladder was empty.
It took three weeks for us to get anywhere even with following the drinking lots during the day, regular toilet trips during the day, no late drinking, no black currant or fizzy drinks etc.

We used the Rodger alarm for our son when he was younger. It worked well. We found this site where you can hire it, so you can save some cash. Bedwetting alarm
