Stopping breastfeeding

I have decided to stop breastfeeding my dtwins who are 3.
They are doing really well and have not asked for milk for two days now.
Problem is my breast are very full and uncomfortable. My body has been producing milk for two children for over 3 years and now doesn't know what to do.

Should I express some milk or will that encourage more milk to be produced?

Should I be gradually reducing feeds rather than all suddenly. They were only having milk for comfort and mostly before bed.

Just manually express until you feel comfortable. If you express a lot, you will continue to produce too much milk. But if you don't express at all you can get sick. So do just what it takes so that you feel comfortable, and hopefully that will be less each day until you can stop.

You can express for your comfort. I cut down to once a day and then every other day then every 2 days, etc. I did that probably over 2 months.

Don't just abruptly stop, you will likely get mastitis which can make you really quite ill.

Express as much as you need to to feel okay but do not empty the breast. Your supply will cut down quite quickly.

Express enough by hand to take the edge off it. Keep an eye out for warm patches or lumps. After about 2 weeks it passes.
