Nappy rash - what to put over canesten?

Which should I be putting over canesten on severe (bleeding) nappy rash on my 3 week old? :(

Metanium, bepanthen or sudacrem?

The canesten on its own won't protect the raw bits, surely?

Please help!

Why are you using canesten?? Did the Dr prescribe it??? It's for fungal infections and no way should be used on normal nappy rash.

And I wouldn't use canesten on broken skin at all. Just clean, dry and use metanium only. It's usually the best for hardcore nappy rash.

I’m not sure, but do you know why they have reacted so bad? Is is a reaction to the nappies or wipes? My baby really didn’t cope well with disposable due to whatever is in them, so we moved onto washable and he’s never had a rash since.

Definitely just use flannels with plain warm water at each change.

At 3 weeks they can’t really move, so also try just cleaning them up, then laying them on a small towel without nappy where possible so the air helps the healing for the next few days.

We've been using Daktarin on DD, with metanium over the top.

Our little one had red raw nappy rash at about three weeks it was horrible.
We got prescribed Timodine which we used for about 2 weeks and had lots of nappy free time. We were told not to put anything else over the top.
I used the large incontinence bed pads to protect the floor/changing area and tried to keep the nappy off as much as possible. Hard when it's cold I know but we turned the heating up in the room she was in.

Something to think about is the brand of nappy you are using, turns out our little one's skin was reacting to the nappies we were using and we've had to trial and error different ones so the nappy rash doesn't return.

Thank you, we are using pampers. I've just bought some puppy pads & we'll do as much nappy free time as possible.

We’re coming out the other side of this after 2/3 weeks. DS has had awful thrush & his bum was raw.

We’ve found a combination of canestan & Weleda Calendula cream, plus Nystan oral solution for DS and Flucanazole tablets for me is shifting it.

We use the Weleda sparingly so you can see the skin texture through it, otherwise you keep creating a moist environment if you use too much.

I’ve looked after lots of babies with bad broken out bottoms, often happens whilst on antibiotics or with thrush or a reaction to nappies/wipes. Do they think it’s thrush?...usually you’d treat both ends so nystan by mouth and cream for the bottom - usually thrush on bottom is a spotty/red rash.

We use bed pads - you can buy them in boots. Nurse exposed as much as you can. Which can be messy but does help heal. Cavilon is something we use, I’m not sure if you can get that on prescription but ask. Clean with warm water and cloths rather than wipes and make sure you pat bottom dry. Use canesten on the bits which aren’t broken and if it gets worse speak to gp again as it can be very painful and become infected. When in nappy change more frequently until her bottom is on the mend.
I have seen some truly horrific nappy rashes and it breaks down so fast due to levels of moisture in the area and skin is so delicate.
Anyway hope it clears up soon poor little thing must be agony
