Home schooling daughter who has learning difficulties

Hi ,

Just wondering if there is anyone on here who is struggling with home schooling their child who has learning difficulties?
I'll give you a bit of info about our issues.
She is coming up to 6 years old and still struggles to read and write. She finds it extremely difficult to sit still and pay attention and her focus is generally on everything else apart from the one thing she's meant to be focusing on which is frustrating when i'm having to sit with her all day every day watching live Google Classroom lessons with her class and teacher. The lessons are relentless and on top of that she has to have special 'intervention' lessons to help her catch up. Her teachers know the situation and have referred her to various specialists for assessments which is great but personally I am struggling immensely with her trouble focussing, constantly having to tell her to pay attention, listen etc which is exhausting in itself and her bad attitude when she simply doesn't want to participate. The tantrums every 5 minutes are also exhausting.
I guess I just wanted reassurance that there are other parents on here going through the same thing with a child that has learning issues and finding it relentlessly hard.
I should add that we think our daughter has add/adhd or something along those lines with possible dyslexia.

Hi

Can completely relate! My son is 10 and am in the process of a private adhd assessment for him. He has always struggled with math but done ok in other subjects.

Focus like you say is an issue and constantly motivating him can be exhausting. He is a very sociable boy and gets motivated by his peers and interactions.

My sons school only do a check in and check out for the day so I have to sit with him to do every piece of work while I try work full time around it. I've generally put less expectation on it and tell his teacher that we will get through what we can and some bits may be handed in a bit later! All we can do is our best and as long as there is some learning everyday then it's a win! I sometimes let my son pick a topic he wants to learn about (was tornados the other day) and we learn about that which he enjoys! Stick with it - hopefully they will get back to school soon Smile
