just wondering if this matters when you take the health test at the uni when you start the course?
i am on ADs and they really help my confidence, i cant go on without them!
Would this stop me becoming a teacher???

I think the vast majority of teachers I know are on AD's, sadly.

have you spoken to the graduate teacher training registry? they're fab with info and dont necessarily ask your name!

oh god, that doesnt bode well for the career i want to enter!!

i will ask them but dont want them to think i'm incapable of teaching without ADs!

thanks

no bother, I was on them while I did my PGCE (in fact I had ECT in the Easter hols!!!!).

Teachng is very stressful. But if you are dealing with it, accepting, treatment, there's not a lot thary can do to stop you!

teaching rocks!!!!!

I was on AD while ago and it certainly never came up at interveiw. You might have a meeting with someone to see if you are 'fit to teach' but I'm quite certain they wouldn;t stop you teaching.

Good luck! and remember these golden rules (that I was given by a very wise lady....)

  1. Don;t always try to 'reinvent' the wheel

  2. Planning is good but don't plan at the expense of a decent night's sleep (the sleep is more useful...)

  3. Strike a balance between being passionate about the job AND LEAVING SCHOOL PROBLEMS AT SCHOOL

Yes. I trained 10 years ago and, when I got the medical form, I wrote them a letter saying I'd just come off ADs and was just fine. Wasn't a problem at all.

Mind you, get a bottom set Year 9 last thing on a Friday and you'll wonder why all teachers aren't on ADs and whatever they can get their hands on all the time...

thanks mossycow!

i just thought when i go for the health check and have to put on the form that i am on ADs they will think im too anxious/depressed to be a teacher???
or if they are choosing from 10 potential student teachers, theyre not going to choose the one on ADs are they?

I think they'll choose the one who they think will make the best teacher - I don't think the ADs will matter at all. Good luck!

when i started mine i had to fill in a health questionnaire which asked if i had any mental health problems, including depression. the pgce is a really, really stressful course and i think they do take it into consideration when choosing the candidates, as places on the course are so competitive

allgonebellyup · 30/11/2007 20:20

i know it is really stressful so i am applying for the part time one! only 2-3 days a week so that should be more do-able?

I've never had a health-sheet to fill in for my PGCE applications

I really don't think they will discriminate (isn't that type of thing illegal - not that you could prove it).

Anyway, good luck with it all

oops what happened there! how weird
