Baby miserable all night

Hi,

Just looking for some advice. My baby is 4 weeks old and is really miserable at night the past few days. He's always fed quite a lot at night and I think he had a growth spurt this week. My issue is he won't settle in his crib at night at all due to wind-I burp him after feeds but it seems to be more farting that's causing him distress. He falls asleep at the breast, stays asleep when I transfer him in but about 10 mins later starts arching his back and farts a bit but then wakes up screaming. I then have to feed him-I've no idea if he's still hungry from the growth spurt or comfort feeding. I don't want to offer a soother yet if possible because he has been slow to regain birth weight so don't want to risk lowering my supply. Any advice? I've been crying all night cos I feel so stressed and useless

Try a dummy. The sucking eases the wind, or at least makes them fart more!

It's shit but normal as their digestive systems are very immature. I'm not convinced there is much to be done but wait for them to grow out of it. Is there anyone who can do shifts with you?

Similar position with my 4 week old daughter (slow weight regain too) and we’ve started using Infacol before feeds. I think it’s helping but as snuggybuggy said, this is normal so it might just be her growing out of it rather than the infacol that’s helped.

My health visitor said she may just be adjusting to the increased milk volumes for her recent growth too, so could be the same for you?

Good luck!

Have you tried infacol? Sounds like it could be wind which tends to be worse at night when they’re on their backs for a long time.

Thanks for the replies. I'm using infacol but I don't think it's doing much as it's farting, not burping that's causing him distress? I do bicycle kicks and massage etc to encourage gas to escape but it doesn't seem to help much.

Snuggybuggy my husband can do shifts with me but because DS wants the boob so much there's only so much he can do. I'm not sure what to do, I'm so exhausted
