Speed eating solutions

Overthinking so thought I'd get some input from the collective wisdom...

My 15m DD has finally got her appetite back after weeks of molar teething misery. She's mainly on fingerfood at the moment because we're temporarily in rented accom and she will only use a spoon if she can feed herself with it, which is just so messy...

The issue at the moment is that if i put a plate of pasta shapes down in front of her, she literally grabs as many as she can and puts them all in her mouth at once, and continues to do this as fast as she possibly can until it's all gone. It's hilarious to watch, she's like a tiny pie-eating competitor or something, but obviously it's not an ideal habit... My question is, should I let her get on with her current method, or should I try and slow her down, just put one or two pieces on the plate at a time, and risk her getting really, really cross?

Just give her the spoon, it will slow things down as she learns to get things to balance on. Get a mess mat to protect the floor.

messmat

Mess matt just doesn't cover it, we're talking walls floor and ceiling here, it's not doable.

I’d just leave her to it and not worry about bad habits at this stage. She likes her good, that’s good!! I wish mine was more like this, meals can take 30-40mins most times with minimal amounts actually being consumed. Lots of rearranging food, nibbling tiny bites etc. It’s tedious!!

My 12mo is exactly the same! You turn around and all the food is gone 😂 If I attempt to get him to slow down he has a full blown melt down so it’s just not worth it.

Ds is like this. I found cooking pasta a bit firmer helped as did mixing textures.

Overcooked the pasta because she was having a whinge, ended up doing a loud song and dance routine that required her to clap her hands a lot - dinner extended from 3 minutes to 7, baby fed, Mum absolutely exhausted, neighbours probably very annoyed.
