Baby hands!

So my baby has started eating his hands. I think he may be starting to cut teeth so I’m not worried about that. The only thing is i swaddle him for sleeping. I want to transition him to a sleeping bag but he can’t stop chewing his hands meaning he doesn’t go to sleep. Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks in advance

Give him something for the teething pain so he doesn't need to chew his hands.

Yeah I have done, but it seems to be more of a reflex than anything else.

tbh i think you just have to let him get on with it. Some babies find sucking their hands comforting. If he's not too old, you could swap hands for a dummy if it's really bothering you?

We used to put our baby in the love to dream bags and honestly he would still suck his fingers through it. Does he take a dummy?

@Jade2021 how old is he may I ask? My son is chewing and sucking on his hands but not sure if it's a comfort thing or something else. He wakes me up in the night from chewing on them so I think it might be hunger

He is 16 weeks. I have put him in a sleep suit the past few nights and he is great apart from initially trying to get him down lol x

He chews his hands simply because he has learned how to do it!! Not necessarily an indicator of needing solids as some people think.. Try a dummy and some scratch mitts. Thumb sucking if he cottons on to that is harder to stop than a dummy..

He's not necessarily teething, at around that age they just discover that they have hands and can put them in their mouth. If he's not obviously in pain I'd just let him get on with it, the novelty will wear off!

Big sleep regression around 4 months (Google 4 month sleep regression, it’s infamous). Sleep disruption far more likely to be developmental due to his sleep cycles maturing and adjusting to not having the swaddle than chewing his hands. Babies chew hands to soothe themselves/for comfort, it’s completely normal and fine.
