No of course not! I know a few mums who have been put on anti depressants after having a baby and there was no mention of the baby being taken away. What makes you think this would happen?

Bluejayway91 · 02/02/2021 16:03

I've been on antidepressants most of my adult life and I have a son, nine weeks. Not once has the idea of him being taken away ever entered into conversation with any health care professional. In fact, I've had a lot of support and suggestions from doctors, midwives and health visitors regarding mental health.

A lot of parents are depressed and do either take medication or do therapy. It's not the stigma it once was. Is this the first time you've dealt with mental health issues/sought help?

I have had significant mental ill health since my baby was born and have received nothing but support and never has the risk of her being taken from me even when the option of a admission to a mother and baby unit came up.
It really is very rare for children to be taken off a mother for mental health reasons and actually having insight and reaching out for support are exactly what they want to see you do.

As long as you are caring for him properly and he is safe and happy, he won't be taken away from you.

Absolutely not!!!! The world is full of mums suffering from anxiety and depression particularly after just having a baby.

That's what the medication is for: to enable you to look after the two of you in the best possible way!

It sounds like you're doing an amazing job raising your son. I really wouldn't spend another second worrying about it (I know easier said than done!), he is happy and safe and the school have been supportive so there is no cause for concern anywhere. I hope you feel better for posting and reading the responses!

Most definitely feel better I don't know anyone around me that has gone through the same as me so I was full of worry but now I'm at ease
