3 year old toilet issues??

Hi all, so basically my daughter who turned 3 in December is having issues with toileting. I potty trained her at around 2.5 years old and she picked it up pretty fast. But for the last few months she wont go do a poo on the potty and instead hides and tries to hold it in, and ends up soiling herself. This goes on all day, every day. I took her to the doctors for constipation and they said it's normal for kids her age to hide and not want to go poo on the potty. She never has any wee accidents and runs straight to the potty when she needs one, but she is constantly soiling herself (tiny bits at a time) rather than just going and doing one poo and being done for the day. She eats plenty of fruit and veg, and I dont believe she has any allergies so it's not diet related. What do I do because I'm fed up here 😩😩

Will she poo on the toilet at home as opposed to potty? Tell her that is the big girl's thing to do. She obviously knows when she needs to go.

I think this can be easily fixed, but you need to get access to the right advice.

My friend had the same issue at the same age with her daughter. They struggled with it for a long time. Their GP wasn't interested, saw it as simply a potty training issue.

Eventually when the child was about 6 they spent a week in hospital with specialists. They said she had resisted pooing for so long there was a blockage, and she didn't feel the sensation any more. They gave her an enema to remove the blockage and then helped her to learn how to use the muscles correctly. It worked, and as far as I know she's been fine since (she's now 10).

Apparently it's one of those issues that is more common than you realise, but is also easy to fix with the right advice.

Sorry, OP, I don't mean that your child has the same as my friend, or that it will escalate to that. But I think it would be worth trying to persist to see a specialist sooner rather than later in case it isn't just a potty training issue. Good luck.

Can she go on the proper toilet - may be a bit self conscious of a potty now she’s older

Time to move to toilet.
