Baby’s 1st birthday presents

Hi All

My boy turns 1 at the end of Feb and I’m thinking of getting him the IKEA kitchen. Seemingly it’s for older kids but I was wondering if anyone bought a play kitchen for their one year old and how it went down?

Naturally my boy loves a cupboard and kitchen utensil, so I think he’ll enjoy this but you never know - he might not be fooled by it!

Would also appreciate any other ideas for a first birthday gift.

Thanks.

My 18 old regularly plays with our IKEA kitchen which we already had from her older sister. At that age they develop so quickly so it’s fine if he doesn’t get much out of it straight away.

My nearly 1 year old DS loves his older sisters play kitchen and all the food that goes with it.
For his first birthday we’re getting a toy garge for him and a car play mat

Even if he doesn’t like it now, he will definitely grow into it. They really start getting into role play etc at around 2, so it might be a better Christmas present for him. You could always get him some pots and pans and pretend food now?

First birthday presents that went down well for my DS were a doll, one of those hammer bench things, an aqua doodle and lots of books.

We bought one for Xmas when LO was 15 months old and he’s played with it every day since (now 2.5) Been really interesting to watch how much his play has changed with it. Word of warning though - it comes in a LOT of bits to be assembled. If you want it to be there waiting on birthday morning get an early start on building it (and don’t drink too much wine before either 😂)

He will grow into it for sure. Both my dc loved their IKEA kitchen and the mini pans and veg they do.

We also had a god ugly little tykes rocking horse given which they both adored. And it was robust enough to be left outside in the warmer months.

I would wait another year for the kitchen, personally.

Definitely. Dd2 is 18 months, but she plays with her older sisters one every single day. She likes putting stuff in and out of the cupboard bits. IKEA do brilliant metal kids pans, she loves those, probably because of the noise they make clanking together!

But even if he isn't bothered right now, in a few months he will be.

Can't comment on the kitchen for that age but a good quality trike to ride in the house went down well and is still used by the youngest and middle child 10 years later!

We have the one in the middle but one with a basket type thing on the front or a little trolley to pull would also be good. Children love to take "stuff" around the house.

Look at GLTC or Melissa and Doug for wooden toys that last forever.
