OP posts:

mindalina · 31/10/2007 10:14

Yes because there is actual movement of limbs going on rather than just thumb twiddling

olsmum · 31/10/2007 10:16

yeh you are right actually (i may have slightly over-reacted )
i can see it would be useful for burning off steam etc. dont know whats got into me this morning!

HairyIrene · 31/10/2007 10:16

I live in a flat in the inner city and there is no way we can cycle around here (nearest major road is Oxford St so really not toddler on a bicycle territory!) So this would actually work for us. But there's no way I'm having it in my home

dyzzidi · 31/10/2007 10:19

I think it is aimed at learning numeracy and literacy if you look at the cartridges and there is phsycal activity too. Instead os beating things up with your thumbs.

It kinda looks like those vtech cartridge things which IMO seem better than a playstation.

Of course my dd is nearly two and is far more interested in a colouring book atm but I know my nephew would love this though.

FrankAwenstein · 31/10/2007 10:20

I think it looks like a fun idea. Ds would have loved this when he was younger

mindalina · 31/10/2007 10:23

Lol Olsmum - I did understand what you were getting at - something like this should never be a replacement for actually going outside and doing outdoor activities. Have you had a cup of tea this morning? I don't function properly till I've had at least two

MilaMae · 31/10/2007 10:55

Hideous-it's not the indoor bike I object to but the huge screen again.

If you'd bought it the kid would want to use it- a lot. After an hour of TV, those hand held thingies, some time on the PC then that monstous thing he'd be practically living in a virtual world, wouldn't want to move out of the house. Scarey!!!!

Whats wrong with running round the garden or park for a couple of hours, you get fresh air too then.

BrownSuga · 31/10/2007 11:04

seems like another product invented so parents don't have to spend time with their kids. it's quite sad really.

TheApprentice · 31/10/2007 12:01

Ok, so I personally find it horrid, don't like the screen etc, but that does not mean I am looking down my nose at parents who do.

Its just my opinion, thats all, we all have different ones and it doesnt make any of us better or worse than others. So please don't assume I am sneering.

FrankAwenstein · 31/10/2007 13:20

I didnt think it came with a screen, thought you plugged it into television.

oliveoil · 31/10/2007 13:51

brownsuga - what a load of crap

southeastastra · 31/10/2007 13:53

i think it looks fab. we can't get my ds(6) on a bike, we've all tried, he just isn't interested. i bet he'd like that though. (but think it's meant for smaller children)

MissInvisible · 31/10/2007 13:54

i like it but dd not that botherd so not spending that kind of moeny for no reason!

yurt1 · 31/10/2007 13:55

It would be great for my severely autistic son for all sorts of reasons. I wonder if 8 year olds can fit on it. Probably not.

MilaMae · 31/10/2007 13:56

I think you do but a screens a screen, they're still going to want to watch tv at some point during the day, it's just yet more time gawking at a screen.

Mine do watch a bit of tv so I'm not being totally anti screen just all things in moderation and having that in your house wouldn't help at all in keeping screen time down.

Very clever the way they've stuck a bike on it to lure parents into thinking it would be doing some good when actually it's just yet another computer game.

Kewcumber · 31/10/2007 13:59

We have four (one each for me DS and the two cats) so we can virtually cycle together. Have a real problem getting the cats to follow us if we use real life bikes.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 31/10/2007 14:00

Thought we were trying to get 'our obese' kids fit? Well this is good for kids who play video games.

Bet it is expensive though.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 31/10/2007 14:02

Nuts, but I think it is for kids who like computer games too much, eh?
Get them to actually do something?
Like Wii's with the tennis game for portly husbands!
LOL

MrsArchieTheScaryInventor · 31/10/2007 14:02

I think it's a great idea! It's like a fun exercise bike and anything that encourages sedentary kids to get a bit more physical exercise is fine by me.

mindalina · 31/10/2007 14:04

Rofl at Kewcumber's cats cycling away in her living room.

EmsMum · 31/10/2007 14:19

I've long thought that someone should design an adult version of this for software engineers. I've known several who were hugely obese, the only thing that moved quickly were their thoughts and their fingers. All they lived for was writing code and eating as far as one could tell. What you'd need to do is hook up the cycle to the computer so that the CPU ran at a clock speed proportional to their legs.

southeastastra · 31/10/2007 14:21

emsmum, could do with one for mumsnet too

LoveAngel · 31/10/2007 14:26

Looks like fun to me!

chloesmumtoo · 31/10/2007 17:14

I think kids would have fun on it, its great if you have the room.
