Hi guys,

Need some advice, single mother I currently live in London in a one bedroom flat. Im looking to move, what age do you think a baby starts needing their own room/space? Not sure if I should move into a one bedroom again or a two. Shes four months at the moment. Thank you

Some people move their baby at 6 months but the official guidance is to try and keep them in with you for as much of the first year as possible ( assuming you can fit a cot in the room obviously).

If you are moving get two bed is possible otherwise you will have to move again soon! The 'recommendation' is six months in with you, but of course could stay much longer but then I would imagine it gets increasingly harder to move them into their own room. At two definitely need their own room as they will have accumulated stuff and need to learn some independence.

Your child can stay in with you as long as you want them too. (You don't have to move them out of your room....) I would look at the financials - can you afford more space. If so you might appreciate it for the paraphernalia and toys that go along with a toddler.
How long are you planning on staying in the next place? If it's long term then again you may want to have your room back at some point in the future.

It depends how much money is an issue; really you could get away with keeping them in the room with you until they’re 2-3 but that has limitations if you had a partner in the future. My DD is 3 and only recently has she really wanted to play in her room.

We had a one bedroom until 11 months then a bigger place but her cot was in the dining room. Rent what you can afford, kids don't need their own room, it's a question of when you want space
