When did your baby stop contact naps?

Most of my six month old's daytime naps are contact naps, which is fine for me at the moment. But I'm wondering what sort of age she might grow out of this?

If your kid used to mainly contact nap, when did they start getting better at daytime naps in other places?

At 9 months when I could roll away from them and leave them alone in bed.

Around 1 year for me, when I could then put him in bed. He dropped naps altogether at 20 months and while he still needs us to fall asleep at 27 months, he then does a few hours in his own bed each night before coming in to us for the rest of the night.

Around 4 or 5 months but I did have to actively encourage it. I didn't enjoy being stuck under a baby so I was motivated to seek alternatives!

At 6 months when we made her stop

When she stopped napping altogether at 2.5 yo 😳 I loved it too much!

Currently have a 6 month old that also mainly contact naps, I can move him to his cot but he normally wakes within 15 minutes. I don’t mind it atm and like the cuddles and time to chill but not sure whether I should try and encourage that he naps in his cot so when I go back to work it’s easier 🤷🏻‍♀️

Would you actively try to move her naps?

Had to google contact naps. My youngest is eight so I’m out of date with baby stuff!
Mine were all shit at naps but would sleep in a buggy. Is that worth a go?

At 4 months when I made a concerted effort to get her to sleep in the bouncer or pram.

With my first never, she napped on me till she was nearly 2 and then stopped napping. Second always went for a nap when put down and she's 1 now. I just pit her in her cot when she's tiered and she goes to sleep. Very different from my first!

At six months when we did sleep training. 9 months old and sometimes a few grumbles when we put him down in cot but goes down quickly

riotlady · 31/01/2021 17:49

About 1ish when she started nursery I think? But I still had to cuddle her to sleep then put her down in the cot

Until he was 8 months, he napped almost exclusively whilst feeding, unless the nap was in the sling, car or pram. Then it was the ridiculous heatwave, so he had more cot naps just because it was too damn hot to hold him for an hour or two at a time 🥵 from then he often had a morning nap in the cot, but afternoons on me. I went back to work at 10 months, husbands morning nap trick is to push him in the pram around the house (furloughed/would work evenings so nursery is only set up for afternoons) then leave him in the dining room whilst he gets on. Consistently gets a 2 hour nap out of him; longer than I ever got with boob in face 🤣
If its working for you, don't push to change it. Little one will change so much, and you'll miss these times. I had to look through photos to see when he stopped contact napping! Still occasionally has them when poorly though, so my most recent (treasured) one was at Christmas, aged 1 x

Never! He carried on until he dropped his naps.
