Babies 1 year vaccinations

Called up to book this today and the nurse told me that baby will have 1 in each leg and 1 in each arm Shock I’ve heard from others that their babies only had them in their legs. I’m just thinking that from a comfort perspective, one in each limb will be so much worse for baby afterwards! What did your babies have?

Also, nurse assured me that even though babies first sets were delayed by a few months, the 1 year jabs can go ahead as soon as he turns 1. Does this sound right? I ask because I’ve been given incorrect information before by the GP and almost missed the boat with rotavirus.

Yes, my daughter had one in each arm and one in each leg, as did friend’s children registered at the same surgery. Other friends registered at a surgery on the other side of town had legs only!

My daughter was fine after from what I remember x

Thanks, that’s reassuring. I’ve read that with these ones the side effects can show up 7-10 days afterwards. We are in for some fun! Sad

DD had one in all 4 limbs, it was like teamwork with two nurses. I held, they counted to 3 and did the arms together and the legs straight after. DD screamed but she made a quick recovery and the jabs were over in seconds, I think I was more traumatised than her! We had lots of cuddles that morning but by the afternoon she was fine! She was a bit clingy the following day but no temp or rash or anything

mynameiscalypso · 29/01/2021 20:02

I think we had one in each limb too although I can't really remember. Chocolate buttons solve all ills. Within about 12 seconds, DS had forgotten about it.

cptartapp · 29/01/2021 20:14

When the Men B was introduced, guidance said the four vaccines at one year of age should go in separate limbs. More recently, this has been update so we can now give two in one thigh and two in another. This has been the case for over twelve months.
The one year vaccs can go ahead at 12 months as long as the second Men B wasn't given less than eight weeks ago.
Practice nurse.

One in each limb here too, one after another. She was a bit tired for a day or two but that's it. I just wanted to add that the MMR vaccine can give side effects for a few weeks rather than days. We didn't have any issues though.

Shelby30 · 29/01/2021 20:26

Never heard of that. We had them in December and it was only in the legs. I'd be a bit perplexed at one in every limb too.

doireallyneedaname · 29/01/2021 20:29

Haha strangely enough I’m 32 and I still remember getting chocolate buttons after some jabs as a baby.

My baby had them 2 weeks ago (plus the flu jab) 1 in wash limb. She’s been ill ever since!!

cptartapp · 31/01/2021 08:05

Baby must have an underlying condition to have flu vaccine at 12 months . Not usually given at this time. So five injections ivf? Where did the fifth go?

orangejuicer · 31/01/2021 08:07

Ah the jabs are anxiety inducing aren't they. I cried buckets and was no help at all, DP handled it all. With DS he was a bit grumpy for 24 hours but was fine, just keep up the calpol.

nattiee · 31/01/2021 08:13

My LO has his last Monday, he had three in one leg and one in the other (MMR).

Mysa74 · 31/01/2021 08:42

The flu on is a syringe of juice that goes up the nose @cpt

Mysa74 · 31/01/2021 08:45

Sooty hit post too soon
Or an injection if they're high risk/under 2 into the upper arm.

stclair · 31/01/2021 08:47

Syringe of juice up the nose?! Nasal flu spray isn’t licenced until 2 years.

Ivfmommy2b · 31/01/2021 08:47

She has a right aortic arch, hence the flu jab, which I actually regret agreeing for her to have, I felt under pressure from nurse, so just agreed to it, after researching it seems the main reason is so they don’t spread it to others! I can’t actually remember which limb they put it in as I was traumatised that my baby was being stabbed 5 times

cptartapp · 31/01/2021 08:49

I know that. I give them.
But as nasal fluent is contraindicated under two years, it must have been an injection.
Just querying with ivf if her child is high risk as not usually given at twelve months. And if so, her baby would have been given five injections.
Hib/men c
Mmr
PCV
Men B
And flu???

cptartapp · 31/01/2021 08:49

I see. Gosh that would have been hard.
Well done.

cptartapp · 31/01/2021 08:50

If she's in a high risk group and never had a flu vaccine before, then she needs a second dose too in a month.

Ivfmommy2b · 06/02/2021 21:34

@cptartapp I’m actually in 2 mimes whether or not to give her the 2nd dose??
