Newborn baby questions

Hi all,

I had my beautiful little boy two days ago and it's our first night home and as you can imagine I'm paranoid about everything:-

I have two main questions

In a room of 22-23 degrees how should he be dressed for bed? My room is hot and I couldn't cool it down even with the window open ( Ned build retains heat, it's annoying) I've brought him downstairs where it's 18 degrees but this isn't an ideal solution so I wanna dress him right.

In his sleep he keeps letting out a two second cry every now and then, and goes straight back to sleep, is this normal, is he okay?

Thanks in advance x

Congratulations Daffodil

Here is a table of temperatures and clothes; hope this helps!

Also if he's sleeping and breathing fine; I'd leave him. My daughter use to hold her breathe for about 3 seconds then cry and continue to sleep ...

Congratulations on your new baby! Babies make all sorts of weird noises in their sleep. I've nannied for some that sound like a farmyard, and some that sound completely silent. I have a 7 week old baby of my own now and he's made crying sounds and giggled in his sleep since he was a week old. Sometimes I can't sleep because he's so noisy, or I think he's woken up to feed so I go to get him up and he's still fast asleep.

Enjoy the sleepy snuggles, I actually cried this week because it seems like it's gone so fast and I almost don't remember those early days. Thanks

22-23 degrees is fine for them to sleep in, just make sure they aren’t overdressed or in too thick sleeping bag or blankets.

Ds was a tiny baby last summer and it was hot here. Usually 25 in bedroom. He wore a long sleep vest in lightweight muslin swaddle when tiny, swapping to lightweight sleeping bag as he grew

The night time noises are perfectly normal too :) Hope you're settling in ok at home x

It depends on the “tog” or thickness of the sleeping bag as well - the one posted above looks like it may only be applicable for lighter weight ones.
I was always told the danger is in over heating so err on the side of underdressing (I’ve taken it too far the other way and he now sleeps soundly in 14-16c in a 1 tog and just a long sleeve tog 🥶)

And congratulations!!

Ps. Newborn breathing is very weird, Blair and very disconcerting!
I think everyone goes through the same worry - you can always request a call from your GP who will happily talk you through your worries and hopefully alleviate them

... I'd turn the heating down... That's a really hot room!

Thank you everyone, it's really helped.

Heating wasn't on and window was open, really couldn't cool it down but for the last few nights it's been 20/21 so not too bad, hopefully stays that way.
