Dummies and Vomiting

My baby is 4 weeks old and we’d like to introduce a dummy now BF is established.

However, she sicks up a lot of her milk, almost after every feed she loses something whether it’s a little dribble or a lot. She’s still gaining weight and feeding well though so the midwives aren’t concerned.

My worry with a dummy at nighttime is what happens if she needs to vomit? Is it going to hit the dummy and go back down her throat, choking her?

Can anyone share their experiences of a sicky baby and use of dummies at night? Smile

Sounds like she has a bit of reflux. I was told dummies can help that as it encourages them to swallow more, (but my baby won’t take one, sadly!).

She won’t choke, don’t worry. Most likely the dummy will fall out when she sleeps or vomits anyway, but if it doesn’t it won’t stop any sick from dribbling out around it. Babies are designed to reflexively swallow their own vomit to stop them choking on it.

The dummy will just come out. Its not like a plug. Dont worry.

Thank you Smile DH said similar and I saw they can reduce the chance of SIDS but I just wanted to double check with other mums.
