Double buggy/buggy board or buggy board with a seat?

Will be having no 2 when DS is 2 yrs 10 months. He is very active child and in many ways could be buggy free, but he is hard to control when out and about and has a tendancy to run off. I am a bit worried about not having him in a buggy ever by this stage, for road safety reasons and also progress on foot (in the right direction that is!) is very slow and sometimes you just need to get somewhere.
It seems daft to get a double buggy at that stage, so will a buggy board or buggy board seat be the right way to go? I am trying to scooter train him too but he gets bored with it after a while and then I end up carrying that as well.
Any advice appreciated.

Another option that I find useful is to have ds1 walking and ds2 in the pushchair but with a sling shoved in the bottom of the pushchairso that if ds1 gets really tired I can put ds2 in the sling and ds1 in the pushchair. I found this much less work than taking a double pushchair.

Also I find that ds1 will walk much further and faster if he walks just in front of me pushing the pushchair. It depends a bit on the design of your pushchair whether this will work.

More generally I'd say "wait and see". It's hard to know in advance what will work.

We have a buggy board for when we look after our friend's son of 2y4m, he loves it. When we go into town he yells "Watch out!" repeatedly at all the passersby

We tried the seat 2 go (where LO can sit down on the 'buggy board') Has reversing problems as can't go backwards, but otherwise OK.

I would agree with the sling under the pushchair option. Bought a double buggy and used it twice I think. Got myself a lovely sling and used it all the time in the first few months. By the time DC2 was getting a bit too heavy/wriggly to wear for long periods, DC1 was finished with the buggy anyway. DC1 was 2 when DC2 was born. Have a buggy board now and it's great for longer walks (though I prefer it for more open areas as getting up and down lots of high kerbs with it attached can be hard work!)

I have a bibi strolli which is a little bike attachment that fits on a buggy. I had two normal buggy boards before that and wished I'd bought the bibi to begin with. My two boys love riding on it. It fits at the back of your buggy and off side so you don't have to alter the way you walk with your buggy. i found walking with a normal buggy board gave me back ache because you kind of lean over more. The bibi has one catch to fit it on and you can take it off in seconds so you can get on the bus or put it in the car really easily. I really couldn't recommend this enough (I had it attached to my tandem).

I also use the sling/buggy option. I've got a buggy board and hate it. Heavy to push, can't do curbs with DC on it. DD kept jumping on and off it all the time.

Sling and buggy then buggyboard in a few months. Would have been housebound (or car bound) without buggyboard.

Thanks so much for all your advice. I will go sling and buggy and see what happens. I know some babies don't like sling - I'll just keep fingers crossed mine does and is not too big a baby!. I love the sound of the Bibi bike. Will look into that too.
The buggy board sounds like a bit of a mare if you do a lot of urban walking i.e. me- Lots of hills, curbs and busy roads which may make buggy board a bit of a pain.
Can you reverse with a normal buggy board?
Many thanks again. This has been really useful.

Hi there taichimum - I use a buggyboard with my DD1 (2yrs 8mths) and my 3 month old in the pram. I find it really easy to push and fairly easy to get up kerbs etc and yes, I can reverse with it. I also find it quite useful in terms of DD1 running away / making a break for freedom as she is positioned in front of me between my arms so if she got any ideas I'd be able to catch her before she got away! But she really loves the buggyboard (especially when I run when pushing the buggy - she thinks that is the most fun EVER) so I don't think she'd want to run away anyway....

I have a bugaboo and their own brand buggyboard so I don't know if that makes any difference.

But I also have a mclaren so there are times (if DD1 is particularly tired for example) when I do the buggy and sling option and this also works well.

(Also - my best friend has the strolli rider thingy for her DS1 and they love it. I've had a go just to see what it was like and it does seem pretty cool so that could definitely be another option)

hope that helps!
