Hope this isn't a silly question but how do I wash up with an 8 month-old crawler who contact naps? The pile is mounting!!!!

Can you carry him in a sling?

TheVolturi · 28/01/2021 12:59

Quickly! 😂

Nicknamegoeshere · 28/01/2021 13:00

She screams her head off in a sling! Tried it a lot x

Can't have her in the kitchen as it's not safe.

Playpen? But secret is to have a basket of 'high value' items eg keys / remote controls that they're not normally allowed to play with and it's only available in the play pen.

Which sling did you try and was it on your front or back?

Nicknamegoeshere · 28/01/2021 13:05

@FusionChefGeoff I wish my kitchen was big enough for a playpen - or even better a bloody dishwasher!!! Grin

Both front and back. Like a wrap sling? We've also tried a more structured skong but she hated that too!!!!

Will she tolerate sitting in her high chair or baby bouncer for a bit? That’s what I have to do. He’s not thrilled about it, but as long as he has a chew toy to hand he’s alright.

Nicknamegoeshere · 28/01/2021 13:06

*sling

@LassoOfTruth She would be OK in high chair (with food ha ha!!) but space in kitchen doesn't allow unfortunately.

Why can’t you have her in the kitchen? I let mine crawl around in the kitchen. I put child locks on all the cupboard doors and put anything potentially harmful out of reach etc. And kept a very close eye on them of course like I do in every room. It was fine 🤷🏻‍♀️

Nicknamegoeshere · 28/01/2021 13:09

@SpanielSprint Our kitchen is so tiny she ends up banging her head on everything and grabbing the oven etc! I know I'm a pain - sorry!!!

SpanielSprint · 28/01/2021 13:13

Ah I see. I found the crawling stage very hard work so much easier when they are walking imo. What about playpen in adjacent room so you can still hear him?

Could you try putting playpen in the next room?

FusionChefGeoff · 28/01/2021 13:47

How about rearranging your cupboards so there's one low down that's full of all the plastic / unbreakable stuff (all stored in a big plastic box) and then that's 'her' cupboard to play in when you're in the kitchen??

minipie · 28/01/2021 13:53

Door locks on kitchen cupboards with anything breakable or dangerous. I’d do this anyway tbh not just for washing up purposes.

Door bouncer and high chair are also good ideas.

There must be space for a high chair surely - even in the smallest galley kitchen if there is room to walk in front of the units there is room for a high chair? Ok maybe you couldn’t get past the high chair but you are stood at the sink for washing up...

Jumperoo might also fit, they’re a little over 80cm wide.

If all else fails then in her cot with some music and non hazardous toys.

Nicknamegoeshere · 28/01/2021 13:58

Thank you all. I'll try the highchair. Think it will just about fit Smile I don't have a jumperoo but definitely wouldn't fit as kitchen very narrow!

OP posts:
minipie · 28/01/2021 14:03

I do recommend a jumperoo (second hand) for another room - with a early crawler you can’t put down for naps, it will be a godsend.

minipie · 28/01/2021 14:04

I also recommend any toys you can attach to the high chair - we had some with suction cups and also some that were designed to attach to a buggy but we clipped around part of the chair instead. Avoids you having to retrieve dropped toys...

Tbh when DD started crawling, i sleep trained to stop the contact naps. Before she was mobile i did all my chores while she was awake, and vegged out in front of netflix while she napped. When she was on the move, she'd go in her cot for naps so i got stuff done. And sometimes i neglected the chores in favour of netflix.
