Hi everyone,
My dd is just lovely and really not a difficult child by any means. But recently she's gone from smiley and pretty easy to entertain to what seems to be easily bored and a bit whingy!
Just wanted to know if this is quite a common phase, she's got her 2 lower teeth so I'm sure more are on their way as we speak, she's also trying to crawl, bottom shuffle, stand and general get going. She seems frustrated and doesn't know if she wants to be pick up, get back down again etc. Getting out and about seems to be the best thing for it, but has anyone had a similar experience and any insights to share?

Yes absolutely - mine was the same around this age and she started to crawl at 8.5 months and then things got better. She is now 10.5 months and seems to be in that phase again BUT she is teething again, starting nursery and has had a virus so it's not surprising really! Distraction distraction seems to be the only way forward - it's absoltuely exhausting though isn't it? I don't know where you live but we have a local Borders that seems to be an informal drop in in the children's bit! You see Mum's propped up half asleep and all the little ones sit and play together / stare / steal toys. Or stay and play sessions or having people round / go round to others for an hour or so late afternoon is a godsend.....!

There's a classic book called Why They Cry - later reprinted as The Wonder Weeks - that goes through all the stages of development in the first year when babies become particularly clingy, cry-ey etc. because they're learning new concepts and they want extra reassurance because it throws them for a bit of a loop...

The book has a little timeline of the first year showing sun or clouds above certain weeks. And 36 weeks or so is the start of a few cloudy weeks Apparently it's because they're learning how to think in categories... And then there's always the teething and the crawling...

My 7.5 month old (also pretty easygoing) is also starting to hate it when she feels a loss of control - when put on her back, or above all when I have to put anything with sleeves on her.
