I didn’t give DS any vitamin supplements!

I’ve been looking into vitamin A/C/D supplements as DS is on 3 meals a day now and will probably be dropping below 500ml of formula soon.

Reading up on this, it suddenly occurred to me that when DS was a newborn, he probably wasn’t on 500ml of formula per day to begin with as that sounds like quite a lot - but I never gave him any vitamin supplements!

I think I wrongly assumed that you didn’t need them with formula, but of course that’s incorrect if they’re having less than 500ml. Could this have done any damage to DS? I feel so stupid! Sad

Also, how do you administer the A/C/D vitamins once they need them - can you get drops? I do have some vitamin D drops but not A/C - can you get them as an all in one?

I never gave my DDs any vitamin drops.

Don't worry. Just use whichever type your baby likes the taste of. Or none at all.

Nature & Nurture Baby & Child Vitamins. The Gentle Liquid multivitamin for Babies, Toddlers and Children. Made in The UK. 60 Doses. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07D1DT6SF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_px9cGbKJS3B2E?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I give toddler DD this. She’s happy to have it straight in her mouth, the little syringe is great. When she wasn’t so keen to start with I put it in a bit of her breakfast porridge or yogurt.

Don't panic! Formula is fortified anyway.
My DS didn't have them because I just didn't know I was supposed to! He was breastfed so didn't even have the added vitamins of formula.

You can get vitamin D drops, but WellBaby is great. I add it to toddler DCs morning cup of milk along with other meds and it goes in easily.

They don’t need vitamins before 6 months (according to nhs) and then if formula fed they don’t normally need them until a year. When they’re newborns they’re that much littler so even though they’re having less formula it’s still a lot for them.
You can get them as drops and put them in a drink or food.

Back in "the olden days" vitamin supplements didn't even exist! Don't worry. It's quite likely your DS has been getting the vitamins he needs regardless.

NHS Guidance: www.nhs.uk/conditions/baby/weaning-and-feeding/vitamins-for-children/
Growing children, especially those who don't eat a varied diet, sometimes don't get enough vitamins A and C. It's also difficult to get enough vitamin D through food alone

Until I read your post, I had no idea about the vitamin A and C guidance, so I haven't been supplementing. I knew about vitamin D but I don't supplement that either (I started when my DS was a baby - he's now 2 - but kept forgetting and figured that we're an "outdoorsy" family so have better vit D intake than many)! Even after reading the article I linked to, given that we have a varied diet and spend time outdoors, I'm not going to start supplementing.

If he is formula feed then he shouldn’t have vitamins from 6 months and only when he is only less than 17oz a day.

Breast feed newborns should be given vitamin D from birth.

Thank you @user1493413286!! I read another site that said the threshold is under 500ml and didn’t mention anything about 6 months. I should have checked the NHS!

Thanks for the supplement suggestions too!
