Helping my baby to crawl

Has anyone got any ideas on how I can help my son to crawl. He's almost there but instead of lifting his tummy off the ground he lifts his arms and legs instead. As he tries to pull his knees up he just can't help but roll over

My 10mo isn’t crawling yet and I’m doing everything! There are videos on YouTube and loads of advice online just google it. Lots of exercises and stuff but basically just need loads and loads of mat time!

How old is he?
What he is doing is perfectly normal in that he is strengthening the muscles in his arms and legs.
Tummy time and toys around him that he can reach for is fine.
Once he gets moving you will probably wish he would stay put for a while. Grin

Lots and lots of floor time and as little time strapped into car seat, pram, bouncy chair as possible.

Plenty of floor time with toys to reach for and leave them to it. They will get their in their own time/way.

My eldest never learnt to crawl. But my second did. But spent a bit of time going in circles and backwards but got their in the end.

There's no rush to have them crawling and if they aren't a crawler they will find a way to move under their own steam that works for them.

Honestly? Don't. They figure it out in their own way. And, we actually counted ourselves lucky to have a late crawler and walker. It's all so much easier to keep things safe and know where your child actually is!

Thank you so much everyone. I just see him get so aggravated when it comes to tummy time because he's trying so hard to reach for things and get to them but I'm worried Incase it breaks his temper. He just gets really upset Sad he's only 7 month old so I suppose there's plenty of time.

That frustration is what will drive him to start to crawl, it won’t be long before he is off.

The sky diving pose is normal and part of learning how to crawl. My DS was super frustrated during this phase but it didn’t take him long to figure out how to commando crawl on his belly. It’s not nice to watch their frustration but they’ve mostly got to figure it out for themselves.

babytedsmamma · 22/01/2021 21:48

Yeah I thought that this would be the case Smile thank you

Yes this is exactly what he looks like! We get such a good laugh at him because it looks like he's just jumped out of a plane hahaha but yeah it's so horrible to see when he gets so annoyed. Suppose he needs to learn though
Lolalovesmarmite · 22/01/2021 21:52

7 months is still pretty young for crawling. He’ll get there, especially if he’s starting to get frustrated. My second baby lay there making no noticeable effort to roll or move until one day when he was 6 months or so when he rolled both ways and started commando crawling all in one day. Babies are weird.

babytedsmamma · 22/01/2021 21:57

I try to let him have as much floor time as possible but it can be so exhausting when he's whinging and getting frustrated. Not sure why but I get headaches really easy and after he's twisting for like 5 minutes my heads bouncing Confused the sooner he stops getting agitated the better hahaha

Follow milestones and motherhood on Instagram- she’s great. We’re under PT as my baby has a genetic disorder so at risk of delays. She says to put a rolled up towel under him so that he has his bum in the air, weight on his knees and on his hands.

In all honesty if I had a ‘healthy’ child I wouldn’t sweat with all this - your child is completely in range and sounds like he’s making progress. Relax! If I were to have another healthy child I would avoid all the bullshit! :)
