Am I on the right track with this routine?

This is my daily routine for my 9 month old DS - does it sound about right? I’m especially wondering about the spacing of milks and solid meals as I’ve just dropped a milk feed (from 4 to 3) and added a solid meal (dinner).

7am: wake, 1st milk (200ml)
8.30am: breakfast
9.30am: nap
11am: wake
12pm: lunch
1.30pm: 2nd milk (200ml)
2.15pm: nap
3pm: wake
5pm: dinner
6.30pm: 3rd milk (200ml)
7pm: bed

If he is only having 600ml of milk a day then you need to give vitamins too.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 20/01/2021 17:51

I thought it was anything under 500ml of formula required an additional vitamin supplement?

Thatwentbadly · 20/01/2021 17:51

Ignore me that’s wrong. My maths of was off when I converted it into to oz.

Thanks all. Any wisdom you could share on the spacing of the feeds and naps? Do you think it looks about right?

Looks fine to me. But there's not one right way to do things. What are they sleeping like at night? Are they happy in the day?

Katiec89 · 20/01/2021 21:51

Have you tried the huckleberry app? I only use the free version but its really helped me knowing when my sons next nap is due and looking for sleep cues.

I do milk before breakfast still and a bottle just before bed. I'm not sure if that's right but my sons 13 months so a few months down the line than you!

LincolnshireLassInLondon · 20/01/2021 21:58

My DS is also 9 months and our routine is very similar. Only differences are... morning nap is shorter (normally 45 minutes) and he wants a fourth bottle around 22:30 (normally just 100ml). In both cases, I wish our routine was like yours Wink

Breastfeedingworries · 20/01/2021 22:02

Why are they napping so early? They’re only awake 2 .5hours Confused why don’t you just have 1 nap in the afternoon straight after lunch.

Breastfeedingworries · 20/01/2021 22:08

With a 7am wake up I’d do this,

7am wake,
7:45 breakfast (why should they wait hour and a half to eat?)
8:30 go out for stroll in the pushchair
9am floor play and sing song.
10am snack and drink followed by cuddles and a story, some carpet play taking you to...
11:45 lunch(this gradually gets pushed to 12pm as they get used to it, eventually 1pm as the day starts later)
12:30 nap until 3pm
3pm wake up drink and snack,
4pm games and songs
5pm dinner
6pm bath
7pm bed something like that.

Breastfeedingworries · 20/01/2021 22:09

In fairness my dd doesn’t wake until 9 most mornings now, I did it by spacing out naps. She have one massive sleep now.

spaceghetto · 20/01/2021 22:15

I used to love a routine with my ds1 (couldn't do with ds2) we did (he'd always wake at 6!)

6: wake up and milk
7: breakfast
8: nap
9: wake up
12: lunch
12:30: nap
2:30: wake up
5: dinner
6:00 bath
6:30 bottle and bed

I think the routine above is pretty standard for a 9 month old. As a childminder I’ve had lots of similar aged babies. Lots of them when they first start will have a nap on the school run for half an hour and then manage till after lunch and nap around 12.30-1ish. I’d expect at some point around 10 -11months onwards for them to drop their morning nap, some do it earlier Or later than others though and it does mean that lunch has to be brought forward a little bit so they can manage to stay awake long enough.

Op, is what you are doing working for you? If so, keep doing it, if you are both happy, there is no reason to change it. The times of the meals look fine to me. does your baby fall asleep on the lunchtime bottle? That would be the next bottle to go so would be replaced by an afternoon snack when baby wakes up.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 20/01/2021 22:21

Does he drink all his milk if after food? Formula should still be his main source of “food”

@Breastfeedingworries because he’s only 9 months old? Confused 1 nap wouldn’t be enough at this age, according to every single thing I’ve read.

7:45 breakfast (why should they wait hour and a half to eat?)

I don’t want to give breakfast too soon after his milk - otherwise he won’t be hungry enough!

@Maryann1975 thank you! He doesn’t fall asleep on the lunch time bottle as such (as in feed to sleep)... he has the bottle downstairs and then we go upstairs and he falls asleep in his cot.

@OnlyFoolsnMothers I’d say he has about 180-190ml of each bottle (I offer him 200ml each time).

@RainbowFlowers he sleeps very well at night (7-7 usually) and naps well during the day, although it can take him a while to fall asleep for his afternoon nap sometimes.

If he's sleeping well day & night I wouldn't change a thing and enjoy it!

user1493413286 · 21/01/2021 07:51

That sounds very much like mine and if he’s sleeping well at night I wouldn’t touch it. At 9 months most babies need two naps.

RainbowFlowers · 21/01/2021 15:39

It sounds like it's working for you. So keep doing what you're doing. All babies are different.

KatieKat88 · 21/01/2021 17:27

Carry on if it's working for you. My 14 month old is still on 2 naps!
